Guest
Just wondering if any one knows what became of this beautiful one-off custom car?I recently ran across a close-up photo in an old Grand Rapids city magazine that shows a couple of Royals from the Netherlands being chauffered around in it, during a 1941 tour of Holland, Michigan. I recognized it by its unusually large wind wings and center-pillar rear door latches. Also, it appears to be a "converted" sedan instead of a convertible sedan ... there is no indication of top latches or roll-up windows visible in the photo, which was shot from above, looking down onto the passengers. I assume then, that it did not have a convertible top.

Guest
I have finally found a moment to scan the photo of the '40 Studebaker President Convertible with HRH Princess Juliana of the Netherlands and her husband, Price Bernhard of Lippe Biesterfeld aboard. The photo was taken in Holland, Michigan in June 1941 during a visit there by the Royal couple. The prince had been seperated from the princess and their children for nearly a year due to World War II, but had found his way out of Europe, to Canada and then to the US where he was reunited with his wife only two days before this picture was taken. The photo appeared in the September-October, 1941 issue of the Grand Rapids Mirror, a city magazine published for that community. (Holland, Michigan is nearby.)You should be able to view the photo scan at the link below ... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />
