I have the same problem, erratic pressure never below half way but jumps to max for no apparent reason. Cause? Pressure sensor? Located where? Is replacement a do it yourself job?

My '90 tops out at high at speeds, it varies between "1/2 and full" depending on the RPM, I'd think if yours moves according to engine speeds and comes within a couple of hash marks of high at speed, you're OK?
Jim

Also with the newer oil pressure sender (black plastic body) be careful about side pressure, is very easy to pop the plastic housing and gutz off the metal base.
Also overtightening can lead to failure, about like a spark plug works for me.

my guage does not seem to be related to rpm's although I do notice it as I am cruising 70 or so on the highway but I think that is when I have the time to observe it.. i would almost think that it spikes with bumps in the road, or so it seems. Possible?
