  1. My dad had a 1952 with Gyromatic, which had two positions. Low/Medium, and perhaps a slightly lower geared medium and high "gears in the regular driving range. My kid brother (who now buys new Caddies in pairs) devised a way to "speed-shift" this car, which I'm sure would have annoyed my dad if he'd known about it. I don't know whether his routine actually did help him away from a standing start or not, but looked impressive, as it involved shifting into the low range, down to regular before the transmission had time to shift on it's own, and then back up to the lower range medium gear, then back down to high after making all kinds of noise without much result. These cars were aenemic, and the anthesisis of a quick off the line car. To make a long story short, I think 1953 was the last year for Gyromatic until Powerflite came out in '54. I don't know whether Dodge/DeSoto/Chrysler had a "regular" 3 speed in this era, but as Plymouth had regular three speeds transmissions, they may have made them available in Dodges as well. Good luck, in any case. Our other car was a 1953 Chrysler Spitfire six with the same transmission. Of course, all our friends had Fords and Chevies...
  2. I agree that photos of the headlamp buckets would help, and I will see about providing such. However, since I copied the information about the etching on the glass carefully, I fail to see what help a "picture" would be, especially since the size would be so small as to be virtually unreadable. The spelling is unique enough that I thought it might touch a chord in someones memory. Again, I offer my thanks for any help. The wording is: SUPRA HI VUE Safety Glass 5 53 I am wondering what make car may have used this brand glass.
  3. I wonder if anyone could help identify the make using "Supra Hi Vue" safety glass. The date appears to be 5 53. I also have a pair of headlamp buckets made out of aluminum. They have absolutely plain bezels. Thanks in advance for any help. BW.
  4. You might try Bueford Hall in Clermont, IN. If he doesn't have anything, he might be able to put you onto someone. His is a BCA member.
  5. I have placed an early take-off maroon steering wheel on eBay for the 1981 C bodied cars. # 220079830773. The wood insert is perfect and the rest of the wheel is excellent. Only minute wear on the corners of the horn button decal. Should fit other "C" bodied cars from 1977-1984. This is an extremely nice wheel and it will be years before your fingers "walk" to a worn place on the edge and fiddle with it. We've all done it, right? Don't pass this by. Thanks.
  6. I was there on Friday with the CLC. The "Y" job wss there. And they don't turn the cars every week. Sometimes it is every day, or day or two. This is the candy store supreme! When you finish your stay, you will believe Charlie Wilson when he said, "What's good for GM is good for the USA. See if you can find out why Pontiac had "bunny ears" on their hood ornament a couple of years before Cadillac's use of them in 1957 and 1958. Enjoy the tour. It will be well worth your while.
  7. I'd appreciate the application for this lens. Thanks, BW.
  8. My color chart shows two maroons for 1941. One is quite a bit darker than the other. Titian Maroon is combination 578. Royal Maroon Metallic is several shades lighter. Combination 563. The mixing combinations I have are DuPont. If you want color that is as near possible the original shade try Color-ite. They have a web site. Hope this helps. By the way, Color-ite asks a 25 percent premium for reds and maroons. Maybe this will cut down on "re-sale," or "auction" red 1959 Cadillac Eldorados.
  9. I have never used two part order forms for the following Oldsmobiles: They are $10.00 each plus $1.20 postage. I had a friend who ordered a few new Olds each year for customers for his up-scale used car lot, and never threw anything away. This shows all the accessories available each year, the correct group #s, etc. The last touch to your restoration, or a guide for what accessories were correct for your car. 1966: 98, (Has Story Olds/Lansing stamp on it.), 88, F85/Cutlass (Has Story Olds/Lansing on it),Vista Cruiser/Wagon, Jet Star. 1967: 98, 88, F-85/Cutlass 1968: 98, 88, 442,Cutlass Supreme (Has Story Olds/Lansing stamp on it), F-85/Cutlass 1969: 98, 88, Cutlass Supreme, F-85/Cutlass, Vista Cruiser/Wagon 1970: 98, 88, Toronado 1971: 98, 88, Cutlass Supreme, F-85/Cutlass, Vista Cruiser/Wagon. Reply to: bgwhlr@tds.net This form is what you sat down with, with your salesman and checked off which items you wanted on your new car. Some items I only have one or two copies left. Thanks.
  10. HI Tom, Gene lives in Greenwood, IN. Thought you might have known him through the CCCA/AACA.
  11. Hi Tom, Forgive me for not responding last night. It was getting late and I forgot to back up to this spot. Yes, that was the right firm. I am going to call him as soon as I get off line. (Still have dial up.) I also have a local lead on a firm locally that did a complete leather/top job on a classic for 9K and 7.5K was for materials. They are purportedly from south of the border originally and did the job for a local high roller (He bought one of the original Duesenbergs a year ago in Auburn.) P.S. We went to Gene Perkin's garage a couple of weeks ago and I fell in love with the color of his roadster about the same year as yours. The dark brown/maroon one. Best regards, BW.
  12. Um, guys. While I am new to the forum, I am NOT new to the hobby. I started way back in 1958. I definitely know the difference between the materials available. If I wanted synthentic, I'd leave the custom made seat covers the car is presently wearing on it. (I will probably install wool broadcloth in the car which Hirsch sells for $75.00 per running yard.) The firm that I was looking for purportedly did the labor for far less than current labor costs and had appeared somewhere on the AACA site. I appreciate the posts however, and I like the quote about skirting the issue... And, if anyone does remember seeing the reference to the firm with more details, I will be grateful for the information.
  13. A person helping me with my 1941 Cadillac 6019S called today, and mentioned that there was a company called "Affordable Upholstery" in Quincy, IL. I punched the words in to make a search and didn't get any results. Any help?
