  1. Hallo Thomas and Jonathan, sorry I have taken a while to add my comments. Car is definitely worth saving, I wish mine had been that complete. However, looking at the picture I see it has shackles on the front springs. All the 70 series cars had the rubber blocks in a fairly large housing at the ends of the springs. This suggests it is probably a 62. If you can get the engine No and/or the FEDCO number I may be able to identify it from the standard catalogue of Chryslers. The FEDCO number will probably be on a plate on the top middle of the dashcoard. If you look careful along the top and bottm of the plate there will bee 3 letters 3 numbers and another letter, mine is CCC362P. This is an American numbering system and may not be on your car if it was manufactured in the states. The engine number is on a the left hand side of the block at the front just above the water jacket cover. It can be quite faintly stamped into the metal.   2. i HAVE SPEEDO FROM 1929 CRYSLER 75. ON THE BACK IT SAYS "AC Spark Plug CC".. inside there is a brass shaft about 2 7/16" long and 3/16" diameter it has a worm gear on one end and another gear 'thing' just off centre. It should transmit drive from the vertical shaft driven by the speedo cable, to the gear that operates the mileage recorder. This shaft needs replacing. I guess it a common problem. Can anyone tell me if I can get a spare, or if anybody remanufactures them.
  3. Jonathan, Sorry I can't help with shockers. Regarding Fisher, I believe all 72 bodies were made by Fisher so I suspect the body came from Canada as CKD, to be assembled at Kew. Have you seen volume 9 No 5 of OLD MOTOR magazine?. It has an article by Bernard Tuckwell who worked for Chrysler at KEW. Also should be interested to know if you have measured the wheelbase. I know of a UK 72 which has wheelbase 10" shorter than my US one?? This one also has no engine number on it and the log book says it is 31/4ltr. although it has the 4ltr engime???
  4. I am restoring a 1928 72 rumble seat coupe. I have the hood frame that sits behind the seats and some bits of wood cut to fit from windscreen backwards over doors. I believe the struts above the doors are "clipped" to the crossmember above the screen when raised and unclipped and folded across the car on the timber behind the seats when lowered. the crossmember above the screen can then be rolled back and clipped to the cross member behind the seats. Leaving the hood still raised behind the seats. I hope you can understand this. My question is what do the various clips/brackets/ fittings look like at the front of the hood. Are they available. I would love to see some close pictures of how this all works. signed confused from England

  6. i am trying to make the brakes work on my 72. It has a non standard master cylinder. and my problem is brakes not releasing, caused by hydraulics. the master cylinder has a valve at the end furthest from the pedal, which looks like a nonreturn valve. Is my description correct, and if so how do the brakes ever release if the fluid cannot get back.??. I tried removing the valve and had a slight improvement. The other thing I have noticed is the hole in the cylinder where th reservoir is connected is level with the piston. I thought it should be in just in front of the seal so that fluid can return to the reservoir when the pedal is fully released. Any advice will be very helpfull Also, the original system had a pump and vlve in the reservoir, that could be used to pressurize the system. is it still possible to get these parts anywhere
  7. I AM LOOKING FOR A CARBURETOR FOR THIS CAR. I BELIEVE THE ORIGINAL WAS A PENBERTHY SV. IS THIS THE SAME AS A BAL & BALL SV??. THE INSTRUCTION BOOK SAYS IT IS OF THE PLAIN TUBE DOUBLE STAGE TYPE, BUT DOES NOT SAY MAKE OR MODEL.

  9. Thanks for the interesting replies. Yes Bill G I did meet you at Chickasha. hope you and your chrysler are doing well. I can't see a number on the chassis, but the rust has been painted over. Do we know why the second one has shorter wheelbase and why it was apparently manufactured in US with right hand drive. Could it have been one the first right hand drives. I had understood that imports to the UK were all assembled at Kew, but presumably they must have done the conversion in US first. Incidently it as plaques all over the body saying manufactured by Fisher detroit job No 7890 body No 1543. The left hand drive Chrysler has engine No J215942 Fedco No CC 362 P. All I know about it is that it was imported to Uk about 3/4years ago. It does have a red head (cast on head). They are both 2str Coupe with rumble seat. They both have tubular front axles and the same dashboards. The Left hand drive one has a tube across the chassis at the back, and the right hand drive has a curved casting that covers the fuel tank. does this help at all.
  10. I have just bought my second 72 in England. First one was U.S. import left hand drive, with wheelbase approx 118 inches. second 72 is right hand drive car first registered in UK august 1928. Presumably a CKD manufactured at Kew and parts imported via Canada. original UK log book quotes engine No J226526 (which matches engine in car) "chassis type letter & No" CH 470 S this would appear to match FEDCO No. but is not on badge on dash, as it is on the US car. The second car has wheelbase approx 110 inches. about 8inches shorter????. Can anyone explain this. Having just read about Martin Swigs book Chryslers in competition in europe in 1920s. I should be interested in getting a copy, is it easily available.?
  11. I have 1928 chrysler 72. from looking around it appearsthat the only colour option was a dark green.Does anyone know if there were any other optons. I soon have to decide what colour to use and would like to be close to original.

  14. I am thinking of a weeks holiday in march early april. i would like to go somewhere that I might find parts or information or see. Chryslers similar to my 1928 model 72. any advice would be appreciated. preferably somewhere not too cold!! sjudistiles@aol.com Bill Stiles UK
