  1. Thanks, all. I found the instructions for replacing the cap's yesterday but I assumed it was only for the 88-89. Sounds like it's also for the 90. I will take the radio out and try this fix. Luckily, I used to assemble circuit boards as a part time job during college so I hope I still got it. I'll let you know how it goes... CTR
  2. Hi- My radio has intermittent popping and cracking from drivers side front and back speakers only. Doesn't matter if it's radio or tape player- same results. Checked antenna connections. Took out radio, checked connections. Looked at front tweeter and rear speaker which "appear" to be okay. (no cracks). Could this be the radio itself or is it definitely the speakers? Thanks in advance. CReichert 1990 Claret Coupe
  3. Hi- I'm looking for a late model Riv... Years: 1997, 1998 or 1999 Make: Buick Model: Riviera Description: Looking for Black, or Gray-white exterior Location: Columbus, OH or close enough that I can drive to see it... Contact Information: redreatta@gmail.com Thanks!
  4. Hi Mike- 1) 1990 2) No 3) No aftermarket alarm 4) No- I will try the alarm relay. It just occurred to me that I had the Buick dealer replace my driver's side lock in April of this year. I had part of my key stuck in the door for several years and finally had them work on it. It couldn't be pulled out so I'm not sure what they did but I still use the same key I always had. I wonder if this is has something to do with it... Thanks for your suggestions. I'll take a look at the alarm relay and post again. Connie
  5. Hi- Can someone please help me troubleshooting my still dead car? Nothing happens when I try to start except I hear brake pump running. Headlight, power windows, door locks and keyless entry, seats, map lights and vanity lights all work. Nothing else works (including high-beams, fog, courtesy lights and chime, as well as flashing security light and all of dash). To date I have replaced: Battery CPS BCM ECM To date I have checked or tried: different ignition key battery cables chassis ground BCM to ground all fuses starter solenoid jumped the relay to courtesy lights and they worked Could someone please check this out on your car: 1) voltage at CPS fuse 2) on BCM connector (sorry but this requires you to take out the glovebox) : a)C-10 on leftmost connector to ground (D-15) b)C-15 to ground c)C-16 to ground FYI- C is the top row on the connector and D is the bottom row I know I am asking much of you to do this, but I really would appreciate your help. Thanks in advance. I'll send you some homemade biscotti! Thanks, Connie R
  6. Hi- I am still trying to diagnose a non-starting car. Will not even try to turn over- completely dead. However, several items still work such as: Headlights Power Windows Door Locks RKE Items that don't work: Dash- Instrument Panel + radio Chime Fog lights All interior couresy lights I had the battery checked under load- it was fine. I changed the bolts on the battery cable/terminal as they were corrroded. I changed out the CPS. Now I am working on the BCM. Question: Does anyone know what the voltage should be from the CPS to the BCM? I am measuring 0.6 volts. I'm not sure what i should be measuring at this point (on the left-most connector on BCM). Any other ways to check the BCM for failure?
  7. Anyone replaced a CPS- central power supply in a 1990? I need to do this and don't know if it will be easy or not. Any tips? (I have a shop manual) Thanks, CTR
  8. Hi- Thanks for all your advise. After a couple more days of trying different things, I gave up and just let her sit. My husband (on a whim) decided to try to start her yesterday and she started right up! No problems at all. We finally figured out that it was corroded connections on the battery terminals. The cables were fine, but the bolts holding them into the battery were completely corroded. It was hard to tell because the terminal looked fine and the head of the screw looked fine. We wire-brushed it and so far, so good. One thing to mention, I had already hooked up a voltmeter and tested the battery and it checked out at 12 volts, 11.5 volts with the headlights on when I was experiencing the no crank condition. Thanks again, CTR
  9. Hi- my 1990 won't crank at all. Yet the headlights work. The locks work. After a few days of sitting- it would not crank. All that was heard was the brake pump. Tried again about 5 minutes later and it cranked, turned over and started for about 5 seconds, then quit. Ever since then, it won't crank at all. Things that work: seats, windows, brake pump, headlights, locks. Things that don't work (aside from no crank): IPC, horn, all courtesy lights, fog lights. I have tried wiggling the key, turning the steerling wheel, both while trying to start. I have tried my spare key. I have tried putting it in neutral and trying to start. I have disconnected the battery and then reconnected after 30 minutes. Nothing has worked. This has been like this for 4 days worth of trying different things. Battery is less than 1 year old. Any ideas? Thanks, CTR
  10. 1) There is a small hole in the condensor for my AC...Is there any way to patch it with off-the-shelf stuff? 2) I have a quote to rebuild my R12 to R134 for $1000.00 on my '90. I saw the $35.00 kit at Target and I'm thinking this is worth a try. I figure, if it doesn't work or I totally screw it up, I can always go shell out the $1000 and get the exchange. Can it do any harm? Thoughts? CTR
  11. My husband and I call my 1990 claret red, "Reuben". The color reminds me of corned beef! My 1989 (which I just sold in September) was named "Miles" because he had low miles on him. I didn't get the Polo green 1991 I was hoping for under my tree this year...Did anyone give/receive a Reatta for Christmas? Happy New Year! CTR
  12. Has anyone used this and have any thoughts on it? Was wondering if I should add it to my gas every so often to keep things running smoothly. It seems to have a good reputation. CTR
  13. Hi- After a long weekend of driving, I finally got home and went to pull key out of ignition and could not. Car was off, but could not get the key to the off position. I forced the steering wheel till I heard it click (steering wheel lock) and then was able to pull key out. Stuck key in again and the entire mechanism was seized and I couldn't start the car. Again I had to force steering wheel around to get the key to turn and start car. After I got this far, I just left key in car and garaged it. If I turn the steering wheel till it should lock, I hear it try to lock and then "not catch" or grind. I am assuming this is what is causing the problem with the ignition part seizing. I tried my spare key to make sure it wasn't a bad resistor on the key, but same problem. Can I drive it like this? My husbands Saturn is in the shop and this is now our only car until his is working again... CTR
  14. At 2:00 am on Sunday morning, someone smashed in the windshield of my 1990 and the door windows of my husbands Saturn. We heard it happen but they drove off before we could jump up and look out our bedroom window. Must've been professionals. The entire thing must have lasted less than 5 seconds and they drove off. What is weird is we live in a great neighborhood- the cops even said this sort of thing never happens around where we live. No one else in the neighborhood was hit...that's what is so scary. Our insurance is making us go through one of their approved glass repair places. Gaurdian, I think. Does anyone have experience with them? Do you know if they will try to put in an aftermarket or if that even matters? Let me know as I'm not scheduled to take the car in until tomorrow... Thanks and keep watch over your cars!!!!
  15. Can I ask how much is cost for the shop to do your retrofit on the 90? It's hot in Ohio. CTR
