  1. With the comments from all and the wiring diagram posted by J.H.Boland I can say this car on this past Saturday morning ran for the first time in approximately 55 years from the information that I'm gathered from my grandmother. We did a lot more work than just the battery but we did have some other wiring issues that the diagram ended up being invaluable for. Thanks again all! Mission Added a pic of its first bath in 55 years also. She cleaned up nice!
  2. You sir are awesome, thank you for this. I took the battery back to NAPA where it was purchased about a month ago and had them test it and it is indeed dead so I have a new one waiting to be installed. I also took the starter to a local shop that specializes in starters and they are going to give it a look over just to know for certain if its good or not.
  3. Yes, I did check the battery and it was also on a trickle charger for a couple days. The battery was 6.04v and when hitting the starter peddle/button it would drop to zero. While doing this I hooked the charger back up and after 10 minutes or so the charger light would flash amber which means poor connection or bad battery. I didn't check the amp output of the battery but I checked everything else that I knew.
  4. Hello all... I just had what I hope to be a simple question. My brother and I are working on a 29' Buick that we got after my grandfather passed a few years ago. We just recently started working on it and the car is kept at his house so he's done a few things to it before I turned wrench #1. The one thing he did that has me stumped at the moment is the battery because he had already pulled out the old one and replaced it with a new 6v battery but didn't pay attention to how the old one was hooked up. He claims he heard the car turn over when he pressed the starter button before but after the new battery its doing nothing. I messed around with it for a while and was thinking that possibly something was wrong with the starter because I was reading the positive post coming out of the starter to the housing of the starter with a meter and seemed to be a dead short. Se we took out the starter and was just going to clean it out real good thinking that some carbon from the brushes had maybe settled and hardened over the years and grounded it out but the inside seemed pretty clean. I remember this car sitting in the garage ever since I can remember and I've never heard it run nor does anyone else in the family remember seeing it move on its own power so its just been sitting for at least 40 years so it probably wasn't any carbon build up anyways. I did some digging on the internet looking for the electrical schematic for the car but I was unable to locate any for the exact year. One thing I did find which brought me here was that older Model A's had the positive terminal on the battery post hooked to ground and the negative side of the battery went to the starter. I was just curious if this was the same for the 29' Buick or if its hooked up the way that they are today. Any help would be much appreciated.
