  1. I just watched an old episode of Wheeler Dealer where they had a glass shop in Le Habra, CA cut a custom windshield for a Saab 96 out of a Chevy Impala windshield. Cost was $500. Not cheap but it is nice to know that there is an option out there. http://kottoautoglass.com/
  2. I have some Reatta parts for sale here and I just found a few more
  3. One dealer offered me $1,200 as a trade and the other one offered $2,000 and offered a better price on the Ranger. I will be posting for sale here my FSM and spare parts for a bargain price. Give me some time to take the pics, upload them and post them in the For Sale section. I feel like a bit of a traitor for not keeping the Reatta as I know the price will go up but I only have a 2 stall garage and I may not live long enough for the Buick to rise much in value. Maybe in 2035 when I will be 90?!
  4. I saw a 91 vert at a car show recently. The owner said he had performed this switch over as it looked better and he was not a fan of air bags. He did not say how he had done this swap though.
  5. My 30 year old driver side sun visor had the typical broken ear that would hang down. It looked nasty. I removed the old one and asked my wife if she could recover it using the left over material from my headliner re-do. The material on that visor was worn through, thread bare and looking its age. She said it was beyond her skills. I was able to find a used one of the correct color with an intact ear. But once again the material was toast. I took it to a local upholstery shop that charges $70/hour for labor. He said it would be a 1/2 hour job so I gave it to him and got it back the next day. Looks great! I was looking at my old one and decided to take it apart to see how it was made. I also discovered that I could reattach the ear with plumbers PVC pipe tape that I had laying around. The stuff is super sticky and quite flexible. I took a few pics for those who might be interested. I will give my old visor to anyone who wants it to use for parts. It came from my 88. I removed the latch pin that clips it to the roof but the lights work, the mirror is in good shape and the lid opens and closes at it should. FREEBIE! Just pay postage from 86409. Here is the tape I used, the part that is a jam fit into the visor, and the before and after pics of the tape repair.
  6. You can find the switch at most auto parts stores. I think I got mine at NAPA.

    Which side

Passenger side according to the ROJ article.
  8. I was confused about which car we were discussing. Thanks for the clarification Ronnie. Now the Red one's engine bay does not reflect an enthusiast owned car. I would be ashamed to open the hood at a car show on that one.
  9. Several reasons for me. Rust belt state, miles are a bit high, engine bay looks nasty, rebuilt title, rear of top where it meets the body looks jacked. A good detail along with an explanation of why it has a rebuilt title would help.
  10. Ronnie. You are doing a great job. I have been on a few auto related forums over the years and feel this is one of the best out there. There seems to be very little selfishness, envy or bickering. Politics and religion don't seem to be discussed and I rarely come upon a troll. One of my friends was a moderator on the Corvette Forum and said he felt it was like being a hall monitor. Keep up the good work.
  11. For your Texas fans. Not recommended for driving in Georgia.
  12. I own an 88 and love it. I fixed all the normal problems and it is a pleasure to drive. I just wish it had a bit more power. Parts can be found and repairs can be made. Buy the 88.
  13. I think this is a Lemons Reatta from a few years back:
  14. I was unable to copy the listing. Go to www.jegs.com and type reatta engine into the search area. I was wrong about the price as it is actually $1,900. Check their rebuilt heads out too.
  15. The Jegs on line catalog shows a remanufactured C code engine for around $2,900. That's cheap when compared to doing the same type of work on most classic cars out there.
  16. I really think it was body color. Are you referring to the panel below the bumper that has a section cut out for the exhaust tips to protrude? Do a Google search for images and you will see that none of them are black unless it was a black car.
  17. AACA member kriswinner was kind enough to type my 88's VIN into a data base and found that the original owner of the car had service work done at Royal Buick in Tuscon, AZ. Date Mar 2002, Mileage 80,059. "Labor Op N4172-Module, Driver Information Center Display (Instrument Panel Cluster) - R&R or Replace. USD: $74.51 So it looks like a module was replaced in the DIC. What are they calling the DIC? Is this the speedometer area or the CRT?
  18. I lost to a 1970 Honda😕 There was a car show in downtown Kingman today from 4-6 PM. The entry fee was an unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots. This was the first annual Christmas show for the infamous "Chillin On Beale Street". There was a raffle for all entrants with a $100 Visa card as a prize. In addition, there was a trophy for the best decorated car. I had 2 strings of battery powered LED lights that I placed on top of the engine bay with the hood up. My engine bay is very clean and looks great. I tried to borrow my wife's 3'tall Mickie Mouse that is dressed like Elf from the movie of the same name to display in the engine bay too. My wife got it from her sister as a gift and they both were afraid he would be stolen! The Honda N600 owner decorated his dinky little car (12" wheels?) with FLASHING lights, candy canes, bows and a large stuffed bear. HE WON THE DANG TROPHY! And just to add insult to injury the dude also won the $100 Visa card too! NEXT year I am going all out. Freakin clown car with a 600cc motorcycle engine. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr🎅
  19. Excellent advice from one and all. Love this forum!
  20. I am old and chubby. I don't have a lift but I do have Rhino Ramps. My wife gives me crap whenever I work under the car although I enjoy doing so. I went to a small local exhaust shop and asked it they could test to see if my catalytic converter might be partially clogged. They said the only way to tell for sure is to cut it apart. They also said the cost to install a new one would be $300. 88 Reatta with stock exhaust and 118,000 miles. Zero rust car as it has lived its life in the desert its entire life. I have done this a couple of times on C4 Corvettes but I was much younger back then. It looks like I can buy a universal fit Magnaflow for around $80. I'm thinking I could do this fairly easily or am I just dreaming. I am not happy with my performance. We owned a new '04 Grand Prix with the 3800 base engine. The car was much more powerful than my Reatta and got better gas mileage. I am only getting 13mpg around town and 17 mpg on the highway. Plugs, wires, fuel pressure regulator, timing chain set, cam magnet and sensor, thermostat, coolant, tranny fluid, exhaust sensor, knock sensor are all new. Fuel injectors rebuilt. All gaskets except for head gasket have been replaced. Idle air control cleaned and Maf replaced. EGR cleaned, New "blow by" valve. No codes or idle problems. Shifts smooth and overdrive seems to work well. Oil and filter recently changed. Brakes do not seem to drag and wheel bearings seem to be good. The car readily starts and drives well except I feel it should have more pep than it does. Comparing it to my Chevy crossover (4 cyl turbo charged direct injection) it has to downshift more when going up a 3,500' mountain. The Chevy does have an 8 speed tranny though.

    Recalls

I contacted GM customer service to see if my 88 Reatta had any outstanding recalls. They contacted me within mere hours to say that none were listed. Good to know!! Here is their site: www.my.gm.com/recalls
  22. I recently changed mine (88 coupe). I did not have to open the pass through at all. Torx screws removed and housing simply pulls forward. I used LED bulbs but cannot recall the size. Your local auto parts counter person should be able to help you with the correct size. Nice and bright now!
