  1. Larry, thank you. Im self taught as i go along. For cleaning I was using hydro fluoride,(?) hydrochloric acid, and another that made a dangerous cocktail for cleaning. I stopped using the chemical. I wash the cast aluminum, media blast , then outgass, then use wax and degreaser product. I then shine the sections I want. Mask off sections, them wipe the area im going to powder coat with “ Final wipe.” Seems like there are silicone chemicals I can try. Thank you for direction Bob
  2. Gents, I powder coat a lot of small parts for Buick. One if the items I clean up are the. 63/64 Buick Riviera Turbine wheel covers. When I get them they caked with 58-60 years of road grime and white rust. Customers will typically expect a wheel cover outside original spec. Customers want the Turbine to look like chrome. Have any experienced good results from out gassing? Reason I ask is fish eye is not unusual if the substrate is not squeaky clean. Im wondering is out gassing a myth or truly useful? Turbinator
  3. Tom, so Buick Roadwheels is a moniker Buick fans conjured or is Buick Roadwheels the generic description for the wheel. Ive gotten the impression Buick Rallye Wheels are 14” wheels for the Skylark? Id like to know the correct description for the two different size wheels. I appreciate your input. Turbinator
  4. Gents, ive found McMaster Carr exceptional with product offerings. Additionally, McMaster provides outstanding specifications. Their delivery is real fast. Eveyrthing about them is first. McMaster’s price for their goods reflects their goods and service. Turbinator
  5. Thank you. I appreciate your input. I plumbed it myself and it shows. My compressor outlet is one inch. I moved down to 3/4”. Since I view my layout as temporary any change can only make it better. I checked and rechecked for leaks. Im clear there. Maybe a valve or some place not functioning right?
  6. It never ceases to amaze me how much cars and pick up trucks cost. I prefer gently used vehicles with low mileage when I buy. My drivers are true utility vehicles. Still used car prices are through the roof. I tend to buy heavier duty used puck up trucks. Some outfitted for a snow plow. I go with Chevy 2500 series because it is habit. If I was not pulling or hauling heavy loads id be inclined to buy closer to my needs. For my personal property y pro-grad!e small engine equipment. The heavier duty lasts longer and parts are available.
  7. EmTee, i had my Riv on my 4 poster Challenger 9000 lb capacity. I had not secured the 4 posts to the concreteflitr rebar reinforced to the foor. I was struggling with something under the car and the lift wiggled. I stopped work that minute and got a drill motor, concrete drill bit and hardware to secure the 4 posts. I specified 4500lb concrete when i had the garage built. My hammer drill motor wasnt quite up to the job, but I persisted. No more wiggle.
  8. Keeping compressor air pressure constant has been hard for me to maintain. I was wondering if the pipe length and routing scheme of the piping has any bearing on pressure consistency?. Thank you
  9. Tom, I think it would be easier to keep track of originality if car makers did not make changes during model year. For instance the washer fluid label was changed from the black and white label during what year model and month. How about painting the firewall black instead of the color of the car. The Riviera aluminum treatment of the dashboard changes? Examples Ive mentioned may be easy to document. My point is production cars we are interested have a number of changes within the model year. Those changes make it hard for me to keep things straight. Later Gator
  10. Tom, i was referring to your comment regarding the 895’s in a 64. Of course, I could very well be mistaken I thought you made the comment that the 895’s were not at all appealing on the 64. It could have been some else making the comment and you were responding to the comment. No problems or worries we can agree to disagree ( on other topics) without being disagreeable. 11. You Rascal! Ive been found out. You let the cat out if the bag!
  12. Better offers available else where. Show us what you have to show. How about what your are runnin’ on your ride. You only run one thing and that is your know it all mouth. You have not one thing to show. Prove me wrong. Put up or be quiet. You have cockeyed opinion, but no work, no investment, nothing but empty words that back nothing. All talk, no testicles, and probably not a dime to invest in a Riviera. Show us one thing Buick you’ve put together that has been constructive. Just one. Later Gator The Turbinator
  13. Opinion only. What one likes another may not. Because you say it does not look good does not make it Gospel. You are entitled to your opinion. Give us an example of what does look good. Does anything to you look good? Later Gator The Turbinator
  14. It just seems to me we just need to learn how to operate our cars so we can drive? Im pathetic when I cant tune in my radio. I guess I need to get the owners manual and learn how to operate my radio my late model Highlander. ive got my Sonamatic on my 63 under control. Later Gator Turbinator
  15. One 100% agreed. However, im a proponent of knowing how your engine is behaving w/re: to water temp and oil pressure. I have analogue water and oil pressure gauges beneath my ash tray cover door. Idiot lights for me mean it is too late! Later Gator The Turbinator
  16. John, Or you could refer him to Turbinator. Who has these center caps?
  17. You are knowledgeable, experienced, and lucky. I live in Maryland where humidity is miserable. Couple high humidity with being self taught Id be more comfortable throwing myself on rusty razor ribbon. The folks at Eaton told me to set the electronic drain opener on my compressor of 2 seconds on 3 minutes off. I just got a replacement drain opener today. Ive grown to be patient and work toward real productivity. Ive had no real production with the media blaster for lack of knowledge and maybe common sense. The last rig i had was a Quincy 5 hp 15 CFM with IR 15 cfm refridgerated line dryer was ok but real slow. I burned up the 5 HP Baldor motor on the Quincy. Bought too much equipment for my real needs, again and not so economical purchase. I bought a Texas Blaster pressurized tank system that works pretty good. Reason I brought up moisture is it plagues me in my work. So, ill use chemicals, 37% concentrate hydrochloric acid, commercial strip products, sanding, and media blasting to get my work piece clean. Im a low production rare Buick parts refinisher for bright work, brackets, etc. i send out for chrome to N.Hollywood or Tucson. Others I powder coat at my shop. Thanks for your input. With your permission Id like to write in on the nuance of media blasting.
  18. Rick, truth known I dont know what C pillars are. Ill tell you I know Im jumpy around things that could be dangerous. I learned real quick Id feel better with my 4 poster bolted through my concrete floor. No more “ walking”. Thank you for your input. Turbinator
  19. In my not so humble opinion talking to the seller/installer of my lift gave me a comfortable feeling I had a good person/selling/doing the work. im not clairvoyant so “reading” people is something we learn as we go along. The man did a great job. The seller/installer made a long trip to be there to show me some basic stuff I missed on how to operate the thing. i compensated him more than adequately for his time and gasoline for his trip. He smiled real big. Later Gator PS Clean orderly set up you have in your garage.
  20. You Sir, have that right! But, ive been told to get my air dry Ive got to run for 3 minutes and drain for 2 seconds. Honestly, I did not know the tank had to be that dry to get the air that dry before the air went through refridgerated line dryer. I am not a patient man when Im media blasting, turbine wheel covers, Buick Roadwheels, headliner trim pieces, valve covers, brackets that go in the engine bay, whatever else someone wants. My last blasting set up I had an 80 gallon reservoir tank of dry air, which I might put back in service if I don't get get the existing rig set up to suit me. Im not a trained metal/ fabricator/ welder just a fellow that likes rescuing old parts that can have another life. Here is a pick of an old Buick Roadwheel I cleaned up.
  21. TTR, I have no problem with your vision, explanation, and basis for your good presentation. AFTER appropriate and certainly accurate consideration for what you want/need/budget is nailed down. How you are going to separate water/condensate in your lines is paramount for a successful operation? If you know how to build a system of lines, traps, and separators AND. You eliminate moisture then that is first rate. i decided on a refrigerated line dryer. Hobbyist, semi pro, pro metal finisher you want the thing to give you production. And I wanted production for my little metal finishing business. I could maybe/probably got by with s 7.5 hp 80 gallon tank 25 CFM OR greater. For me getting the moisture out of the lines was just as important as the rest of the variables. Lator Gator The Turbinator
  22. Gents, I do a lot of auto rusted parts resto. I need to blast and need production. Im not trained in any of this, BUT this my 3rd rig in 7 years. My first two media blast rigs were lame. I bought a 120 gallon tank with 10 HP 38 CFM COUPLEd with its 53 CFM 10 hp refridgerated line dryer. I bought a Texas Blaster pressurized media tank The pic shows set up and testing status.. im not home yet as my automated electronic drain not work. ill get er done.
