Thanks for welcoming me to as a new member of the Buick Club! I am pleased to share some information about 4 of my favorite Buicks. The first is a 1957 Roadmaster 75 Riveira. Garnet over White over matching two tone interior. Factory AC and all power options. Totally Restored inside and out about 4 years ago. Next is my 1965 Riviera: Turquoise Mist over black deluxe interior, AC and most power options. 74K original miles, frame on restoration of a RF California body. The third is a 1966 Riviera: Turquoise Mist over Aqua Deluxe Buckets, 72K original miles, all original except one respray. Finally, 1971: Vintage Red over black deluxe bench interior, all factory options except maxtrac. Purchased from the second owner 44 of years and fellow ROA member. These cars give me tremendous pleasure both in driving and visually! Thanks for your interest!

Thanks to you all for your helpful replies! I did locate a Buick Right Hand mirror which matches the left - the only difference is that I will have to add some black paint in the small outer trim groove.

Great. Can you tell me the model number - they offer several that say they fit the car, but they have different bolt patterns. Thanks. Or send me a photo of the starter/bolt pattern. Thanks.

Good advice - supposedly two mechanics have already done that, but the third one will do it for sure`!

It's a long story. Last year the starter performed perfectly - but on rare occasion, when it was really hot outside and the engine was hot, the starter would not re-engage until the car sat and cooled off. So I had the starter rebuilt. When the starter came back, it had a new new problem - it would crank too slow to start it (a new battery was installed at the same time) - but if you turned the key off for a minute, it would then crank normally and start. So, I took it to a different shop who took the starter off and sent it back to the shop who rebuilt the starter - they checked it and bench tested it and stated that it performed perfectly. So the mechanic reassembled the car and could not find the problem. I drove the car for 6 months in that condition. Now, the starter will barely crank and the car will not start. The car has a full electrical charge and this condition repeats even with a charger/starter on to boost it. I have been told that it could be an electrical problem which needs to be traced down; so the next shop that will look at it to trace down these problems. But if it is the starter, I do want to replace it rather than have it rebuilt again - that is why I am seeking advice. Thanks.

Hi and thanks! The 65 is Turquoise Mist; The 66 is Aqua Mist. They are nearly identical in color - but the 66 is just a bit more blue in it. Thanks for your inquiry!

I wrote to you all recently about needing a new heater core for my 65 Riviera - thanks for your advice. I am hoping that one or more of you may know a fix to a new problem. The mechanic successfully changed the heater core from the engine side. HOWEVER, now when the Heater is on ( My car is an AC car), heated air flows from the proper defrost or heat vents according to the lever controls, but there is a continuous flow of untreated air coming from the AC vents. (The AC is still functioning perfectly when engaged). This air flow varies with the fan speed and speed of the car. The Mechanic will continue to work on this to correct , but he states that all of the vacuum lines were properly reconnected and that they did not disturb any of the heater/ac vent doors. I have provided him with the Buick service manuals to study to correct the problem. Any suggestions?

I recently purchased a very nice 1965 Riviera. It went through a complete restoration, including engine rebuild, in 2010, and has been driven only a couple thousand miles since then. I noted when I inspected and drove the car that there was a minor vibration in the car (I would call it a 2 or 3 on a scale of 1-10), which I assumed was either related to wheels or tires. However, those items have all been checked by 2 different mechanics, wheels replaced with different ones, new tires purchased and balanced twice, suspension inspected (and all proper and intact), and the vibration persists. As added info for my question, the car runs and performs beautifully at all speeds and is extremely powerful. Both mechanics concluded that it is related to the engine. The vibration can be felt at all speeds above Idle; it is constant in that it is always there, but it does vary according to RPM; at higher ends of each gear it gets smoother, then when it shifts it becomes more pronounced, presumably due to lower, momentary RPM. They checked the harmonic balancer, and state that is not the cause; they checked the driveshaft and state that is in perfect balance. That said, their only suggestion for a possible cause is that the engine is out of balanced internally and would have to be torn down to correct it. Any suggestions for other checks or causes, or should I expect that the engine will need to be torn down to correct this? Both mechanics state that I should just put up with it since the car runs perfectly and is very nice otherwise; . That is not acceptable to me, although it seems practical! Thanks. David Baker

Help! My Mechanic tells me that my heater core on my 65 Riv (401) is totally blocked and needs to be replaced. I have observed that the heater core encasement appears to be visible on the firewall; the mechanic states it is not required to disssemble the dash board and go through the interior; rather it can be replaced from the engine side of the firewall. Please advise. I would also like to know the best place to purchase a new heater core. I have only been able to locate one online on ebay but thus far not directly from a distributor or manufactor. Or is it necessary to have it recored? Thanks. David Baker #14360
