I would not use Champion plugs if they were free. You want autolite plugs. Don’t know number for that engine.

When these young people come to my door selling magazines, boxes of fruit, greeting cards, etc., I always buy something to support them. Car washes, no. They are too busy talking with their friends to do it right. No kidding, I have come home with mud smeared all over my car . But I am sure they are not all that way. They just need better supervision. I know, I used to be one of them. 🤪

In my experience, if it’s high school kids it’s not a car wash it’s a mud smear.

Probably my favorite car of the modern era. I once owned a 73, and I loved that car. Took a trip to Wyoming, and drove 55 mph to conserve fuel. She got 14.8 mpg. On the return trip, I kicked her up to 85 mph and set the cruise. Lots of open road in Wyoming. Gas mileage at 85 mph ? 14.8 mpg. That big ol 455 was still loafing !

More bad news for you, sedans do not bring as much money as coupes. But there are people that want them. I would sell it where it sits.

How about a picture of the back.

What I see in the picture is normal for these old engines as they were run with non detergent oil. Put the pan back on with a couple of bolts just finger tight before cleaning out valve spring area. Then the mess is in the pan instead of on your floor. I have a ‘39 Dodge flathead that I did this to. After clean out, I used Shell Rotella 15-40 Diesel oil. The old Dodge likes this and the detergent oil will keep it clean. My engine has the bypass oil filter to help with this. After clean out it takes longer for the oil to look dirty. You may want to ask the Packard guys on here about running detergent oil in yours after clean out. I don’t know about your filter situation. My Dodge pan gasket came in 4 pieces. The long pieces on each side I used Permatex and glued them to the pan. I want them stuck there, not on the block. The block side of the gaskets got a thin film of grease to help them seal. I can now remove the pan, if needed, and not damage the gasket. I do not know about your Packard, but my Dodge has a flat cork seal in a channel at each end of the pan. These are thicker than the side gaskets and stick up above the side gaskets when installed. This is to allow them to crush when the pan is installed, thereby providing a tighter seal. I put grease on both sides of this seal to allow it to flow into position.

Jerry, you also need to pull the side cover off that is over the valve springs. If you have a mess in the oil pan, it will also be behind this cover. After scraping out all you can, aerosol carb cleaner will aid the final cleanup. Make sure the drain holes from this area to the pan are open. Also be sure to clean the oil pump pickup screen. Great looking car.

Three years ago they filmed a show just down the road from me at a friends farm. The entire thing was scripted. When you see them drive up, get out, and introduce themselves, Fake, Fake, Fake. They have already been there 3 or 4 hours. Along with a motor home, straight truck, production crew and their vehicles. Free lancing in a van, not hardly. After seeing this,I very seldom watch this charade.

You would have to be pretty mechanically shallow to not know the skirts and lights are removable. I seriously doubt a thousand dollar reduction in price is going to bring forth a rush of bidders. I personally prefer a 37 or 38 but this car is beautiful just the way it sits. I would love to own this Buick but it is out of my price range.
