  1. Maybe this link will help: Reatta Owners Journal - Replacing a Magnavox Ignition with a Later Delco Unit
  2. Maybe the transmission shift modulator has an internal vacuum leak? it would cause hard shifting too. Usually some transmission fluid gets sucked up by the vacuum thru the shift modulator and gets burned in the engine. Might check the tranny fluid level.
  3. If you want to test it yourself, look for one of these on Ebay or the internet: Kent Moore CRT Tester J34914
  4. Might check the knock sensor, I have been told if it goes bad it will keep ignition timing retarted, causing low power and gas mileage.

  8. If the alternator is bad, it could be draining your battery. And make sure all of your battery connections are tight.
  9. It looks like the connector on yours is mounted right below the light socket, whereas on my car the connector is mounted farther down and to the right of the hood insulation.
  10. This is what my 89 Reatta looks like
  11. I would guess the CRT needs replacement. Sounds like the vertical circuit has gone out, which would cause the CRT to display all the data in a horizontal line.
  12. If you are handy, you can try to fix the broken lever. Back when I had my convertible, I found my lever was broke too. I sandwiched some brackets to each side of it and JB welded it all together.
  13. If your hood struts are mounted upside down it could cause problems with closing the hood.
  14. I did a firewall side freeze plug on a Reatta a few years ago. Used a expanding rubber one as a replacement. It was still some work to get the bad one out, but better than messing with moving the engine or transmission.

Since you have a new battery, the battery cable bolts may bottom out and be tight on the battery, but not clamp the terminal tight enough. You may have to use a washer or get a shorter bolt.

  17. You could try these guys, they show an 8" one which I assume is the small one. Maybe they would have a larger one too. If you have one with a part number they may be able to look it up. Buick BKC43 Options (hubcaps.org)
  18. Nice interior, I like the two tone seats.
  19. Reatta Owners Journal to get the dash panel off. But you may want to have a replacement sensor on hand, it may take some searching to find a good used one, or a suitable substitute.
  20. I found this: Headlight Control Module Fix? - Third Generation F-Body Message Boards If you look at post#16 it says this: GM part #16525685Buick: Reatta (1990-1992)Olds: Toronado/Trofeo (1990-1992)Pontiac: Firebird (1990-2002), Sunbird (1990-1994) I am guessing it should include 1988-89 Reattas too
  21. I have also done this; I plugged off the output of the fuel pressure regulator with an oil pan bolt that I found at the auto parts store that had the same threads. then connected the fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail, then turn on the key for a few seconds. If it holds pressure, then the fuel pump and fuel injectors are good. This may not be a good test of the fuel pressure regulator though, because you may be blocking off the port it is leaking out of with the bolt.
  22. I think I did this test before; I pulled the fuel rail loose from the manifold with the injectors still attached, bagged the injectors with ziplock bags, then turn the key to on to build pressure in the line. A leaky injector should start filling the bag. You would have to change the O-rings on the injectors before reinstalling, but they are cheap.
  23. Have you checked the vacuum to the HVAC Control Module, behind the glove box? Maybe the module is leaking vacuum internally. Or maybe the Vacuum reservoir tank is leaking. Or maybe the black vacuum manifold on top of the engine is cracked or the gasket under it is bad. Reatta Owners Journal .

Try this to test the fuel pump https://reattaowner.com/roj/component/content/article/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&catid=67:fuel-system&id=244:fuel-pump-troubleshooting If you think the fuel pump relay is bad, you could swap it with one of the other relays next to it temporarily https://reattaowner.com/roj/component/content/article/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&catid=67:fuel-system&id=277:fuel-pump-relay-location
