  1. Attached is a photograph taken in Northern Colorado, I think, in the 1920s. I want to use it in a historical blog about the Forks Hotel, shown in the background. There is a note on the back that might say the image was made in 1924, but it is very hard to read. I wonder, if the partial cars in the photo give you enough to confirm a mid-1920s date. Also, though somewhat out of focus, there is an interesting gas pump in front of the hotel. I've attached an enlargement of the pump hoping that someone might recognize the gas brand or anything else about the pump. Thanks, McMalcolm
  2. I have a photograph of the Schauer's Bakery in Fort Collins, CO. In front of the bakery is a line of seven trucks, I'm guessing delivery trucks, and seven drivers. It is a sharp photograph and I zoomed in on the best license plate. I think it is either a Colorado 1928 or 1929 plate. I'm hoping for some information on the years and models of the trucks. I've split the line into two images. This one shows the three trucks on the right side of the line. Can anyone identify the trucks?

  4. Thanks for all of your help. Yes, the ranch is still in operation. It is in Northern Colorado, but it looks like you have to get to it from southern Wyoming. As it turns out, it is currently for sale. The 17,000+ acre ranch is listed for $44.9 million. Maybe a really big bunch of us could go in together and buy it. You can find the listing and its 160 photographs by searching Diamond Tail Ranch in Colorado. It is gorgeous. McMalcolm
  5. Hi....I'm a local historian in Fort Collins, CO and I'm trying to date an image taking in Northern Colorado and used on a real photo postcard. There are no obvious clues to the date. The stamp box, on the back, which is one way to date a real photo postcard, was unfortunately used for a long time, so it gives a broad date range - 1924 to 1949. There are three automobiles in the photograph. Unfortunately, they are pretty small. Below are two images, one showing the entire photo and the other is a closeup of the cars. I'm hoping someone can narrow the date for me. Thanks for your help. McMalcolm
  6. Hello...Here are some pictures from a 1904 panorama photograph of Fort Collins, CO. There are two automobiles in the photograph them I'm hoping someone can identify, through when I blow them up, they aren't very shape. 1904 is when the first cars were purchased by Fort Collins residents, though cars passed through from Denver before that, usually making the local newspapers. I've split the panorama into a left and right image, both of which have an automobile in the foreground. Thanks for any help you can give me. Mac
  7. Below is an image of what I think is a Stanley Steamer. It was located in the Poudre Canyon, west of Fort Collins, CO, when the image was taken. I'm looking for any information anyone has on the date and model of hte car and a confirmation that it is a Stanley Steamer. Thanks, McMalcolm
  8. I'm trying to put three images of a Fort Collins, CO filling station in date order. Unfortunately, there are no clues on the images. To make it tougher, two of the images are printed postcards and you can't really enlarge them very well. Below are the three images. I wonder if you can tell me the make and date of the car in the first image, which is really clear, and then, by using the gas pumps can you make a guess as to the age order of he three images? I've called them All States 1 - 3. Thanks, McMalcolm
  9. I to love this forum. For a local historian, you are one of the great ways to date images. Thanks again for your help. McMalcolm
  10. Hi....Here are the cars in an image in the Poudre Canyon, west of Fort Collins, CO. I'm trying to pin down a date and I wonder if he autos and/or the gas pump can help. Any guesses on the age and make/model of the cars? The license plate on the foreground car is pretty clear so I've included a close-up of it. Thanks for your help. McMalcolm
  11. This is an enlargement of an automobile from a photograph of downtown Fort Collins, CO. Other clues in the full photo ensure that the image was made after 1907 and before 1916. I'm trying to narrow the guess at the date and I'm hoping someone can identify this car, though it isn't a very good image. Thanks for your help. McMalcolm
  12. I believe it is. I never noticed that. Thanks. McMalcolm
  13. This task may be asking too much of you guys but I thought I'd try. Below is an image I'm using for a Fort Collins, CO history post. It is a picture of a downtown section of Fort Collins at the transition point of horses and autos. It contrast the blacksmith's horse shoeing business with the Fort Collins Motor Co. right next store. And, it has the mix of the horse and buggy with two automobiles in the background. Using city directories, I know the Motor Co. could have been at this location from as early as 1909 until after 1917. I'm trying to tighten the date span by using the autos but they aren't very clear in the photo. I know the Motor Co., for at least part of the time, sold Buicks. Maybe that can help. I've attached the full image and close-ups of the two cars. Let me know if you have any thoughts on the cars. Thanks, McMalcolm
  14. Hello...I'm a Colorado historian trying to date two images. The only real clues are the automobiles. The post is about the Armstrong Hotel in Fort Collins, CO. I guessing that this photograph was taken in the 1960s. I'm hoping someone can use the automobiles to tighten the date of the photograph for me. I've attached a full scan of the postcard. Thanks for your help. McMalcolm
  15. Hello...I'm a Colorado historian trying to date two images. The only real clues are the automobiles. The post is about the Armstrong Hotel in Fort Collins, CO. The hotel opened in 1923 and this is an early image of it. I guessing that the photograph was taken shortly after the hotel's opening. I'm hoping someone can identify the car, helping to date the image. I've attached a full scan of the postcard and a closeup of the car. Thanks for your help. McMalcolm
