  1. I have a hand operated vacuum pump. I'll have to just keep looking for that little leak somewhere. Thanks
  2. By control head you mean the heater/air cond. controls on the center dash I take it, and then do you mean lubricate where the metal parts are of the two adapters for all of the vacuum lines?
  3. Hello Buick Riviera Experts I have been working on my 1964 Buick Riviera Air Conditioner system for sometime now. My current hangup is the vacuum controls meaning the vacuum going to the two diaphragms that open the two doors in the plenum. In particular, although the vacuum strength coming from the engine to the supply line in the dash control area is very strong, the strength of the vacuum at the diaphragm controlling the Heater and Evap. Air Door is very week and won't move that diaphragm. However, if you move the diaphragm arm manually it will stay open and plenty of air is blowing through the dash outlets. Don't know why the vacuum is not strong enough to move that door but is enough to hold it open ??? Any thoughts on this subject ? Additionally but probably unrelated is this fact. My diagram from my service manual page 11-79 shows the white and yellow vacuum lines going to the Heater and Evap. Air Door dual stage diaphragm AND the green and red lines going to the Outside and Recirculated Air Door. It is just the opposite in the actual car. Is this possibly a misprint in the manual ? Thanks to anyone with input. Ray
  4. Hello Folks Gradually working on getting my '64 Riv interior finished. I'm planning on putting new wood trim on the door panels and center console. I am having great difficulty in getting the old wood veneer off. Does anyone know of a good technique and/or solvent ? Goof-Off doesn't do much and I've even tried lacquer thinner. Any ideas ??? Ray
  5. OK Magoo I'll check that out too. Thanks
  6. Wow Joe, This sounds good. Yes, my GEN (or in this case it's labeled AMP) light acts just as you describe here. It gets brighter the lower the rpm's go. I'll try cleaning things first. Is my electronic regulator choice the one from Old Buick Parts OR do you know of another source. Thanks, Ray
  7. Belts and pulleys look good but thanks for your help.
  8. It has twin belts going to the alternator and A/C compressor and I feel they are correct tension BUT I'll try loosening them. Thanks
  9. Hello All, I have a 1964 Riviera with new alternator, voltage regulator and battery. After starting and a bit of a warmup period, I put the car in gear (reverse or drive) and get a "squawking" noise up front and the "amp" light comes on. This is of course related to the lower rpm resulting from putting the car in gear but it shouldn't do it. Noise and light go away if you drive off (or raise the rpm while holding the brake). Could this be a mismatch of the the new parts - alternator from O'reilly Auto and regulator from Old Buick Parts. Anyone have an idea ??? Car didn't do this before I replaced the Alt. and Regulator. Thanks, Ray
  10. Got it. Good idea Tom. Thanks
  11. Thanks again Jim. I believe I will try a new fuel pump. Not that expensive anyway. Ray
  12. Not very - maybe 10 degrees.
  13. Here's one that is puzzling me. When my '64 Riv is parked in my drive slightly uphill, it is hard to start, as in not getting fuel but cranks well. When I park it headed downhill, it fires right off. Is fuel draining away from the fuel pump and I need a new one? Or is there/should there be a check-valve in the fuel line? Any ideas? Ray
  14. OK bepnewt, will do. Right now it's just sitting in the shop waiting for me. Or - I'll send it to Oregon.
  15. No, not putting in a new dash pad. Merely wanted to remove it to get at things and will probably try to repair the cracks as well. Thought it would be easier to work on the crack with it out of the car. Sorry, don't know of a source for new dash pads. Wonder if they could be recovered with vinyl and look OK ???
