  1. I am looking for new starter clutch (15 in picture) for my 1935 Chrysler Airstream 6. It is difficult to read the number of the starter, but this might indicate that the starter should have a starter clutch from a 1941-1948 model? Could this be correct since my starter has floor mounted starter switch, or should I order the part that will cover 1935-1940?
  2. thanks! I don`t think I need to exchange the oil in the fluid drive assembly, but is it correct that you use the same oil here and in the transmission case itself (TDH, ISO22 or ISO32)?
  3. What kind of oil should I use for my hydraulicall operated transmission in my 1950 Desoto. The warning on the transmission (see pictures) says 10-W motor oil, but I can`t find that type of oil here i Norway. Anyone who can advise me on a more common oil that works in this transmission?
  4. Thank you, descriptive pictures :-). I realize your advice is to look for a newer transmission, maybe 1949-1952 will fit? 47/5000
  5. I have been offered a hydraulic shift transmission from a 1948 Desoto Coupe to replace my Hydraulic shift transmission in my 1950 Desoto Custom 4 door. I guess the 1948 transmission has external E-brake (mine has internal two shoe E-brake)? Will the 1948 transmission fit my 1950 Desoto, are there other differences than the E-brake? Will the transmission from the 1948 Desoto fit my 1950 Desoto? I hope someone can help me with this question.

  7. Interesting! If he is interested in selling it, do you think he is willing to make sure to send it to Norway? They may not be very easy to send?
  8. Thanks for reply. I don't have the knowledge to do that work myself. Then I think I have to look for a rebuilt transmission. I described my problem like this when I looked for a good transmission and got this answer about the clutch throw-out bearing. Are you 100% sure the noise is coming from the transmission itself? It sounds like it could be the clutch throw-out bearing which is an easy, less expensive fix. Do you also think that the problem/noise may come from this clutch-bearing?
  9. Well, I'm not 100% sure... I thought it should be in the transmission itself since the noise disappeared when i depresses the clutch. When I listen under the car the noise seems to come from the transmission, but it maybe transmitt from the clutch? Are there any way to check if it can be the clutch throw-out bearing?
  10. The function is perfect, but unfortunately there is a mechanical noise especially in Power range (1. and 2. gir), but I can occasionally hear it also in reverse, neutral and driving range (3. and 4. gir). The sound disappears when I depresses the clutch.
  11. My english is still bad.., but I will try to describe the noise and under what driving conditions it happens. You never hear the noise when the clutch are depressed. I can hear the noise in reverse, neutral, power range (1. and 2. gear) and driving range (3. and 4. gear), but the noise is absolute worst in power range. In power range you hear the noise all the time. In driving range you just hear a small noise when the car drives easy (you don't hear it when the car accelerates). In neutral I can hear the noise, but if I carefully press the gear shift handle against reverese the sound decreases. In reverse I hear the noise mostly when I releases the gas.
  12. Thanks for your reply. I don't know, but I think maybe a 1950 Chrysler Windsor transmission will fit. I have attached some pictures of my transmission.
  13. I have unfortunately had a noise in my Hydraulic Shift transmission in my 1950 Desoto with Fluid drive. I do not have the knowledge to open this myself, but is there anything I can do without to disassemble the transmission. The noise is especially prominent in the power range (1. and 2. gear) and may sound like 2 gear touch each other. I am very grateful for any advice. The gearbox works otherwise excellent, but this noise has unfortunately gotten worse.
  14. I am looking for a working Hydraulic Shift transmission for my 1950 Desoto S-14 with Fluid drive. I hope someone have such that they are willing to sell.
  15. Thanks for all the advice! After installing a new wiring harness and a rebuilt original carburetor the transmission still not functioned, but after running the car for a while it began gradually to function properly. I still dont now what the rattle noise is, but apart from this the semi automatic fluid drive now works excellent .
  16. I want to buy a sun visor that will fit my 1950 Desoto. If possible I want a type that can be installed without drilling in the vehicle body.
  17. All the bulbs are ok and the park light front and rear running lights work. Is it likely that there may be problems with the turn signal lever on the steering column, and is this easy to verify / repair?
  18. I have trouble getting all the turn signals on my 1950 DeSoto to work. Does anyone have tips on what the error might be? Where should I start looking for the error?
  19. Thank you! I have now cleaned the square box shown in the illustration from c49er. I find then the markings you show, and these matches the wiring diagram that followed the new wiring harness, great! However, there are no markings on the 3 units shown in my illustration. I hope this means that it does not matter which wire I connect to which connector on these 3 units? + 20 degrees Celsius in the south of Norway today, it will be very exciting if I get the car to work during this spring:)
  20. Thank you, is it likely that the wires not should go to any particular terminal on these 3 units? I am unsure what you mean with berather strut, but guess you mean the square box that sits on the stay that is attached to the air filter box. I think I have managed to sketch out the 4 connections on this box based on an old wiring harness. However, I'm a little unsure, as the old wiring harness was very poor.
  21. Thank you. I have now cleaned the 3 units with 2 terminals each carefully, but could not find any markings on them. Does it not matter which of the 2 terminals on these 3 units I connect the 2 wires to, or can I break something if I do this wrong?
  22. Thanks for your feedback. The diagram shows the same colors / connections to the appropriate units as a similar diagram I have for my DeSoto. My problem is that these diagrams do not show which of the 2 connectors on the 3 current units the individual wires should be connected into. How can I now know, for example, that I connect the red wire to the correct connector on the solenoid?
  23. I have bought a rebuilt carburetor Carter E7L4 and a new wiring harness for the M6 semi-automatic fluid drive transmission on my 1950 DeSoto. I wonder how I will know which contact the following wiring should be connected to: - Brown and yellow to be connected to the anti-stall magnetic lockout on the carburetor, which wire to which contact on the anti-stall magnetic lockout? - Yellow and red wire that connects to the solenoid on the transmission, which wire to which contact on the solenoid? - Yellow and blue wire to be connected to the interrupter switch on the transmission, which wire to which contact on the switch? I really hope someone can help me with these questions .
  24. Thanks for the offers! I still hope to find a complete ready rebuilt carburetor. If I can not find a carb like this, I hope I can contact you at a later date. As it is expensive to import parts from the U.S. to Norway, I hope to find a carburetor that is in a condition that does not require later ordering of parts or a rebuild service.
  25. It is correct such Bob writes. My challenge is that I miss a functioning original carburetor (Carter E7L4 or Carter E7L3). The carburetor should have 2 switches that help to control the gearshifts. The motor runs today with a unoriginal carburetor without these two switches (Tillotson). For this reason I'm looking for a possibility to manually control the gearshifts from 2nd to 1st and from 4th to 3rd. I am also looking for a functioning carburetor type of Carter E7L4 or E7L3, but I hope to find a solution that enables me to get the gearshifts to work with the unoriginal carburetor until I hopefully find a functioning original carburetor.
