  1. Thank you, descriptive pictures :-). I realize your advice is to look for a newer transmission, maybe 1949-1952 will fit? 47/5000
  2. I have been offered a hydraulic shift transmission from a 1948 Desoto Coupe to replace my Hydraulic shift transmission in my 1950 Desoto Custom 4 door. I guess the 1948 transmission has external E-brake (mine has internal two shoe E-brake)? Will the 1948 transmission fit my 1950 Desoto, are there other differences than the E-brake? Will the transmission from the 1948 Desoto fit my 1950 Desoto? I hope someone can help me with this question.

  4. Fluid drive transmission for 1950 Desoto

Interesting! If he is interested in selling it, do you think he is willing to make sure to send it to Norway? They may not be very easy to send?
  5. Thanks for reply. I don't have the knowledge to do that work myself. Then I think I have to look for a rebuilt transmission. I described my problem like this when I looked for a good transmission and got this answer about the clutch throw-out bearing. Are you 100% sure the noise is coming from the transmission itself? It sounds like it could be the clutch throw-out bearing which is an easy, less expensive fix. Do you also think that the problem/noise may come from this clutch-bearing?
  6. Fluid drive transmission for 1950 Desoto

Well, I'm not 100% sure... I thought it should be in the transmission itself since the noise disappeared when i depresses the clutch. When I listen under the car the noise seems to come from the transmission, but it maybe transmitt from the clutch? Are there any way to check if it can be the clutch throw-out bearing?
  7. Fluid drive transmission for 1950 Desoto

The function is perfect, but unfortunately there is a mechanical noise especially in Power range (1. and 2. gir), but I can occasionally hear it also in reverse, neutral and driving range (3. and 4. gir). The sound disappears when I depresses the clutch.
  8. My english is still bad.., but I will try to describe the noise and under what driving conditions it happens. You never hear the noise when the clutch are depressed. I can hear the noise in reverse, neutral, power range (1. and 2. gear) and driving range (3. and 4. gear), but the noise is absolute worst in power range. In power range you hear the noise all the time. In driving range you just hear a small noise when the car drives easy (you don't hear it when the car accelerates). In neutral I can hear the noise, but if I carefully press the gear shift handle against reverese the sound decreases. In reverse I hear the noise mostly when I releases the gas.
  9. Fluid drive transmission for 1950 Desoto

Thanks for your reply. I don't know, but I think maybe a 1950 Chrysler Windsor transmission will fit. I have attached some pictures of my transmission.
  10. I have unfortunately had a noise in my Hydraulic Shift transmission in my 1950 Desoto with Fluid drive. I do not have the knowledge to open this myself, but is there anything I can do without to disassemble the transmission. The noise is especially prominent in the power range (1. and 2. gear) and may sound like 2 gear touch each other. I am very grateful for any advice. The gearbox works otherwise excellent, but this noise has unfortunately gotten worse.
  11. I am looking for a working Hydraulic Shift transmission for my 1950 Desoto S-14 with Fluid drive. I hope someone have such that they are willing to sell.
  12. 1950 DeSoto semi automatic fluid drive (M6) questions

Thanks for all the advice! After installing a new wiring harness and a rebuilt original carburetor the transmission still not functioned, but after running the car for a while it began gradually to function properly. I still dont now what the rattle noise is, but apart from this the semi automatic fluid drive now works excellent .
  13. Sun visor for 1950 Desoto

I want to buy a sun visor that will fit my 1950 Desoto. If possible I want a type that can be installed without drilling in the vehicle body.
  14. Turn signal 1950 DeSoto

All the bulbs are ok and the park light front and rear running lights work. Is it likely that there may be problems with the turn signal lever on the steering column, and is this easy to verify / repair?
  15. Turn signal 1950 DeSoto

I have trouble getting all the turn signals on my 1950 DeSoto to work. Does anyone have tips on what the error might be? Where should I start looking for the error?
