Old iron: I can help with locating the parts you need. Send me a PM. I run the Marmon Sixteen Roster.
  2. Certainly a pleasant man, who was a great Marmon supporter and was an asset to the hobby.
  3. We used the Rustoleum product on our garage floor about seven years ago. It lasted two years and then began to flake off below where the cars exhaust pipes exit and also where road salt dripped on the floor in winter. We contacted the company, and they agreed we did all the correct prep and applicaion. They refunded our money, but we still have a floor that continues to deteriorate. Everytime I sweep the floor, more flakes of the epoxy paint come off.
  4. I maintain the Marmon Sixteen Roster . I have a factory photo of the car confirming it was Valentine Yellow with a Black Pinstripe, Black top and Black Wheels.
  5. Technically, it is extremely difficult to adequately support the long crankshafts of a Straight Eight above about 5,000 rpm, and a Straight Twelve would be subject to a massive amount of crankshaft flex and "whip". Fiat actually did make a V-24 aero speed record engine in the 1930s. You can see one at the Kalamazoo Air Museum in Michigan.
  6. I am trying to either locate of find more about David E. Block of New York, NY. I know that in 1972, he purchased a Model J Duesenberg Murphy Convertible Berline from Harold Harmon in Columbus, OH. Block owned the car until 1985, when he sold it to Tom Barrett. During this time, Block apparently did restoration work on the car including painting it in Maroon with Black fenders. Anything anybody can tell me about Mr. Block would be most appreciated.
  7. Sent you an email. Please respond and we can talk.
  8. In my experience over the last three years in Illinois, if the car is a pre-1940 model and it currently has an out of state title, you will receive a letter that will require you to have the vehicle inspected by a law enforcement officer to verify the serial number. He has to fill out and sign the form that came in the letter. You then send that information to the Secretary Of State Police and they will release the title papers and you will get your title. I just called the County Sheriff (I live in a rural area) and once I convinced the lady on the phone that they can do this, an officer arrived , looked at the car, signed the paper and was gone in ten minutes. A good time to call them is on a Sunday afternoon as it is usually a quiet shift. If your car is out of state at a restorer's, the shop can get a local officer to inspect the car and fill out your papers. I have had to do that also, as I did not want to wait for the title until after I received the car. I also have had to actually call the Secretary of State police and ask what happened as they forgot to send the paperwork and my title was held up in never-never land. As for Department of Revenue, ALWAYS buy your car from a private individual and you will automatically pay a tax rate of $25.00 for cars over a certain age, even if you buy a Deusenberg. By from a dealer and you pay 6.25%, and this is where the Dept of Rev can come looking at the reported value of the car. With a private sale their hands are tied. Hope this helps, as I have been down this road recently.
  9. Joe is correct. Always switch the "grounded" terminal. That is the only way to completely isolate the battery and eliminate any chance of an accidental short by something touching the "hot" terminal.
  10. Locktite 515 and 518 are the best thing since chocolate milk. 515 requires a cure period before use and 518 is "instant seal". You can use either on threads or put a light smear on copper or fiber washers. Can't make a comment about the spark plug question.
  11. One of the cars I take care of is a Ford GT40 that raced in Gulf colors. I just went to my auto paint store and we found "Gulf Orange" and Gulf Blue" in the regular PPG automotive paint listings. This was 15 years ago, but I would bet it is still there.
  12. Marmon specified for their Sixteen, which used a Delco 6 volt positive ground ignition system, a condenser of .21 to .25 MFD.
  13. Thank you Alan Ballard!!!!! Thanks to the AACA Forum and its members, Alan found me and I now have the earlist known photo of our Marmon Sixteen. The photo and the notes on the back exactly support the history of the car that we had previously researched. This is a prime example of someone taking the time to match some piece of historical information with the current owner of the car! We need more wonderful people like Alan in our hobby. If other members have ANY old photos of Marmon Sixteens, we would love to see them for the Roster records. You would be amazed what is still showing up to educate us about these great cars. Thanks again to everybody. DWR46
