Hi All, The spectacular 50 hp White charabanc in 35Ford's August 2 post was custom built for Sid Day's "Day's Motor Tourist Service", Sydney, NSW Australia, as noted above, by Smith and Waddington, prominent local body builders of the time. From period reports and photos it seems his fleet of vehicles were well appointed and always looked special. As was the trend, Day shifted to the "parlour" style vehicle in the attached photo, for the tourist trips to the Blue Mountains and Jenolan Caves. Behind the coach though is on of Day's Hudson tourers. This particular coach is often referred to as "the Government coach" but it was owned by Day and contracted out to the NSW Government Tourist Bureau. Jenny

Thank you Bob for those links, Over here in Australia we are also very concerned about the proper management and future of our automotive history. I have forwarded those links on to colleagues and friends here who will be most interested as we are commencing discussions about how to assist and guide collectors, researchers and curators here. We had hoped to set-up a more formal discussion of the topic later this year at our Automotive Historians Australia gathering but Covid has put play to that for now. Jenny

Ply33 and Owen, Have just spoken with the engine rebuilder and passed on all your comments which he and I are very grateful for, appreciate you both taking the time to respond to my query. Can't help thinking how much easier sharing information and ideas is in our hobby now, when we got the Nash in 1968 we had to wait anxiously for air mail letters and parts parcels for 3-6 weeks from fellow Nash restorers and antique car enthusiasts, now it's a matter of hours! As someone who has collected auto manuals, factory and after-market, for nearly 50 years, I was not expecting initially to have difficulty in finding the spec.s in my own collection of books, but having never had to locate this information before for any of our other cars I hadn't realised that factory torque spec.s before 1935 was going to be a problem, but not one of about 8 original mechanics and engineers books for 1920-1934 cars had the spec.s we needed. Hence me throwing the query out there on the AACA and NCCA Forums. I have had a couple of responses too over on the Nash Car Club Members Forum - looks like the most common tensions suggested all round are in the range for Rod Bolts 35-45 lb ft and Main Cap Bolts 70 lb ft. Engine rebuilder has taken all the comments on board and we are again underway, deadline for the block to be back in my shed for putting back into the car is December 1st - giving my son, me and a small group of vintage car club friends the Christmas school holidays to get the car back on the road. Thanks Owen, The engine rebuilder we are using is very cautious, hence my query on the Forum. He has not done many engines like our Straight 8 Nash before though he is widely respected for his skills with post WW2 engines. We chose him because he is so careful, doesn't rush in but queries and thinks everything out, his is a very small family owned workshop and he is prepared to take the time over our engine, which we really appreciate. Will see him today and discuss your comment. cheers Old28

Torque specs - conrod 1930-31 Nash 8

We are rebuilding a 1930 Nash 490 Straight 8 engine, new white metal bearings having been poured and we are readying to start putting everything back in and on the block. We really need the torque settings for tensioning the nuts on the connecting rod and main bolts. Hoping someone has these specifications for 1930 - mid 1931 Nash Straight 8 engines. The 1946 National Service Data book has the torque specs for 1935-40 Nash, maybe someone has a pre-WW2 edition or some other workshop book that lists this data for 1930-31. Thanks Old28

There's a period photo online from one of our public libraries showing an nice tourer. The notes say it is a Woman with her new Maxwell car and dog, Shoalhaven, ca. 1920 / photographer Cyrus S. I have been trying to identify the year and model of the vehicle and would appreciate help with this one as I am perplexed by it - the slanted bonnet louvres - do not appear on the photos of Maxwells I've looked at the nickel radiator surround - again most of the period photos of Maxwells I've looked at don't show this the windscreen frame - sits across the cowl not curved over it and swept up at the sides as the 1919-20 models appear to, so could it be for a Maxwell of 1916-1917? but if that early there doesn't seem to be the right curve of the cowl/firewall? In fact I began to wonder if it's a Maxwell at all so am throwing the identity question out to the Forum community for input. It must be considered too that this photo was taken in Australia, it is quite likely that the car has a locally-built body. Appreciate any thoughts. Old28

Still looking for info on that Oldsmobile Club badge and found this: Feb 18, 1940 - appointment comes as a result of his excellent sales record In 1939 The Oldsmobile club is a national society conducted by tho Oldsmobile factory in honor of outstanding salesmen Membership in the club is limited to salesmen who qualify with a designated sales volume From Salesman Here Is Made Officer In Oldsmobile Club . Milwaukee News-Sentinel. Anyone know what the plaque and emblem mentioned in that 1940 neswpaper article look like - could one of those be my elusive Oldsmobile Club badge?

HI, I've posted this over on the Oldmosbile Forum but then noticed this discussion and hoped you guys wouldn't mind me running it here too. Because I have a vintage Oldsmobile a fellow restorer gave me this older car badge some years ago. See attached image. The badge is red enamel on brass, the shield part is 2-1/2 x 3-1/4 ins. , the words "The Oldsmobile Club are on a white enamel stripe. On the back is stamped the number '16' I would like to know where, when and what was "The Oldsmobile Club" that it was for. Anybody know more about it? Regards Old28 from Australia
