RM Auction at Hershey Motor Lodge

I realize that this is not an AACA event but was wondering why it costs so much just to preview the cars and then you have to be a registered bidder to attend the actual auction. Maybe if I saw a car I liked I might become a serious buyer - but to pay those entrance fees to take a chance is expensive. Any thoughts?

I thought the preview was open to the general public? As for the auction itself, there is limited room so I can see why they need to maximize bidders.

What a lot of people do is go outside and watch the procession of cars going from the parking garage to the staging. You can get up close and personal and also get to see the cars drive. Yes, RM charges to attend the auction and bid but as stated it is due to a very limited seating capacity at the Lodge. Heck, the catalog alone costs a fortune but does get two admittance to the auction.

Some advice from personal experience on previewing the vehicles prior to the day of auction:

Make sure you take your catalog(s) for entry or you will be denied entry even though your name will be on the catalog(s) purchased list at the vehicle preview entrance, unless you have a free preview pass that they occasionally give out at their flea market spaces. This means if you are riding the shuttle from the show field to the lodge you must drag your catalogs around with you all day (rain or shine).

I'm always a fan of modesty, never of hype and pretentiousness.

Auction fees don't need to be so high. There's a great antique-car auction
in Lock Haven, Penna. in mid-July that's very family- and bidder-friendly:
No charge to register to bid (and of course no charge to look at cars);
4% buyer's fee, 4% seller's fee ($1500 maximum). For those of you who
enjoy cars, look up the "Central Pennsylvania Auto Auction!"

How's an Olds guy have Ford's...you seem confused! The Giant Center Auction so far has had no takers. It has been pitched to numerous auctions and none can find away to make financial sense in doing one. Meantime the car corral looks solid this year and the RM auction will be there biggest yet.
