Earlier this month, 1959 Buicks from around the country and owners/enthusiasts from around the world met in Colorado Springs to celebrate the golden anniversary of the car.

During the course of planning for our Colorado Springs event, I considered the idea of creating a special souvenir to help us all remember the 50^th Anniversary event. The inspiration was the posters I've seen for the great, annual Concours d'Elegance events. These posters typically feature original art work, and it occurred to me that our "Fifty Years of the '59 Buick" event would be no less deserving of a fine-art poster to mark our milestone gathering in Colorado Springs. The poster would incorporate some of the distinctive styling elements of the '59 Buick, as well as draw a clear connection to our gathering place in the Colorado Springs area.

I identified the United States Air Force Academy Chapel in Colorado Springs as the perfect backdrop for our 1959 Buick image. This "Expressionist Modern" structure was designed and constructed during the 1956 - 1962 time period, spanning the time period that our 1959 Buicks were designed, built, and purchased by car buyers. The design was created to resemble a "phalanx of fighter jets shooting up into the sky", and the image fit with our vision -- a phalanx of Delta Winged '59 Buicks "flying" toward Colorado Springs from every corner of the USA.

To carry out the vision for our event poster, I approached nationally-known colored pencil artist Gary Greene, who has painted a number of beautifully detailed automotive pieces. Gary is also a regular photographer for "Collectible Automobile" magazine. He embraced the idea of the poster, then devoted hundreds of hours to conceive and create the image of a 1959 Buick tail fin detail with the USAF Academy Chapel beyond.


I have a small number of remaining posters. Each giclee print has been signed and numbered by the artist.

I'd like to chime in on these fantastic prints! Mine looks awesome and is the centerpiece of my entire Buick Collection.

It's still the 50th anniversary of THE CAR, so if anyone wants one of these, get one before they are gone!
