| Re: 1936 Oldsmobile question I wouldn't worry about an oil filter. My Pontiac came with a partial flow (by-pass) filter (the type normally added to you vintage). The filters for mine are very very rare. I have 12 of them. Since 1959 this car has been my daily driver. At 280,000 miles I overhauled the engine. It now has 485,000 miles on it. Nearrly all of them without the benefit of a filter. I found that when a new filter was installed it warmed up (indicating oil flow) for about 500 miles, after that it didn't filter any oil as the oil was by-passing the filter. Because of the scaricity of replacements I drive without one. I use good modern single grade oil and change it every three months (3,000 miles). I find that my oil level is down about a quart in this length of time. I havn't had to add oil between changes since I overhauled the engine 20 years ago.
Just use good oil and change it regularly.
