    Wes' 1921 Chevrolet '490' Touring Car: 1921-Present!

Wes' 1921 Chevy! And a breif history since 1921!

1921: The '490' is sold at Clippinger Kinkade Chevrolet Dealership in Los Angeles, CA, it was the first car sold by the dealer and Hale Clippinger drove the 1921 straight from the chevy factory in Michigan to the dealership in California. (have pics. of it outside the dealership in 1921!)

1921-Late 1940's: Not much is known, except that the car had 60,000 miles put on it, less the trip from Michigan, Hale Clippinger buys it back in the late 1940's for use as an advertisng vehicle!

Late 1940's -1960: The car is used in local parades to advertise Clippinger Chevrolet, now located in Covina,CA

1960-1970: The car sits on the showroom floor for advertising (see first pic.)

1970-1973: It is put in storage and my grandpa buys it in 1973

1973-1992: My dad and grandpa drive it a few times, but, then it is puched to the back of the garage, until I turn 4 or 5.

1992-2002: My grandpa and I work on the car, removing the junk from the inside, replacing the wood, and getting it up and running. My grandpa and I do this because, he wants me to drive it to school when I become 16! But, it has an overheating problem and still does after a radiator rebuild.

2002-2005: My grandpa Willison and I tinker with it and get it running but, it still has an overheating problem

April 1, 2005: My grandpa Willison dies on his 89th birthday and my grandma gives me the car, because she know that I care about it and that I will take care of it, and most of all, she does not have use for the 'junker'!

Late 2005 early 2006: The overheating issue is finally solved, there was to much oil in the engine, this is not known because there is no dipstick and never was!

2006- exaust replaced and a new battery is put in and some other misc. repairs and in July the Hemmings article is published featuring the Mustang, Dodge, and the '21

2007- Generator goes out and the car is not driven from Jan.-Sept. 2007 because the generator had to be sent out to a special rebuider of old G.M. generators from the 20's

2007- The Car is driven alot! and to the market, etc.!

    2008- The Adventure Continues!........

How about a little information on that blue pedal car in the front of the garage??? Is that a Corvette? Do you still have it?

Re: Wes' 1921 Chevrolet '490' Touring Car: 1921-Present!

Well, it is a corvette, and it is not a pedal car, it is powered by a lawnmower/go kart looking motor, the chain that runs it, that links it to the axle or something is old, it looks like a bicycle chain. It is an official G.M. Product, my Grandpa won it at a G.M. Exhibition for my dad, back in '65 or so (he was the top chevy salesman in the country from the early 60's through the 70's. He entered my great aunt's name because employees could not enter! He probably stuffed the balot box too!). It is in good condition, and I have never seen another like it! It is also very fast, from what my dad tells me! Seen any others?
