Something in regards to tying the boat down, perhaps???

Re: Boat trailer project

The winch was in terrible shape, but worked fine.

Found this helpful hint after sandblasting.

The frame of the winch was galvanized. The balance of the mechanism was powdercoated because the gears would not have meshed properly with 1/16" of zinc on them. The tolerances on the rest of the parts wouldn't have allowed it either.

Re: Boat trailer project

Lighting installed and operative.

Installed spare tire bracket and spare. Installed a new dual wheel tongue jack. I find myself doing "musical cars" all summer and it would be helpful to be able to move the boat easier.

After a little spiffing up of the deck, glass and chrome she's ready to be reunited with her berth.

Looking foreward to Tuesday evening. Manpower and will power will be necessary for this task.

Barry....what a gorgeous boat! Reminds me of the movie "On Golden Pond".

Re: Boat trailer project

I believe that was an earlier Chris Craft utility. It had a straight bow while the '50s boats had a pronounced "bullnose" bow.

The amazing thing about the boat is that it's about as original as a boat of that era gets. It's never been refinished. The chrome is also original. It's a real time capsule.

I used to see some near that vintage at a place called "Donavan's Marina" out on Lake St. Clair.

I have seen many trailers with tail lights mounted there.

Re: Boat trailer project

Yikes! If in the future you should have any need to store your Chris Craft off the trailer for any length of time, with a wooden boats such as this, it's always best to lay it up in a properly constructed cradle made to the shape of the hull. This prevents possible permanent hogging or sagging and prevents any abnormal opening up of seams.

Scott Andrews
