| 1932 Alvis 12/50 Cabriolet engine in repair Look at my Alvis engine!
This is not the way it should be, we had a problem with the valve from the damaged cylinder.
Now we have to find out where the water is leaking, this is a thermo cyfoon system, so no waterpump.
This little roadster is so much fun to drive, the gearing is very tricky, but you get used to that!
They are well known for the Hillclimbs they organise in England.
Wish me luck!

| Re: 1932 Alvis 12/50 Cabriolet engine in repair Thank you Oldcar!
I will contact them for sure.
No leak so far, nor in the head as in the block!
Have to take another good look at the head gasket, perhaps we missed something, I hope!
My Alvis is the one who never lets me down, has no vapour locks or what so ever. I tow her with my trailer everywhere I want to go. Own this car since 1977!
Thanks for looking! |

| Re: 1932 Alvis 12/50 Cabriolet engine in repair There is your problem! Cars are for driving not towing on a trailer. Where do you live in the Netherlands? We are coming on a Lagonda Rapier Register tour next June There are two or three Rapier owners in the Netherlands we will be visiting. The Australian Alvis Club has just finished their National Rally Three weeks motoring. Trailers are for taking junk to the tip! |

| Re: 1932 Alvis 12/50 Cabriolet engine in repair Trailers are for taking junk to the tip! Some people here in Holland agree with you, I take junk with me! Especially the ones with American cars!
Since I love some of the American cars, I think they match together very well. What one misses the other has more off.
I already heard about the tour in June next year. My late father owned a 1935 LG45, lovely car! Don't want to say how many times I picked him up with the trailer...!!
I live in the centre from the Netherlands, 60 km. east from Rotterdam, you're welcome any time.
Perhaps the register does something together with our antique car club, the Pionier Automobiel Club.
They already did that with others clubs, quite nice to meet.
See you then!

| Re: 1932 Alvis 12/50 Cabriolet engine in repair Hello Carine
I look forward to meeting you next june. I sold my LG45 after I wore out a complete set of new tyres in one weekends racing. With the Rapier tyres usually last almost a full year. We have just returned from an interstate rally, a bit over 1,750 miles( that is almost 3,000kms) in 5 days. Damn! we forgot the trailer again!
Cheers!

I guess one race a year?!!!
You don't have to rub it in, I know my place when I meet with Lagonda's and Speed 20/25's!
Hill climbing okay, but motorway.....? This is why I keep my friend on the trailer, at first to keep it in one piece after having several folks nearly crashing me on the motorway.
At second 60 miles is not so pleasant, my kidneys get sore!

| Re: 1932 Alvis 12/50 Cabriolet engine in repair We avoid motor-ways like the plague. The Lanes in England N and D roads in France are much more fun! Apart from that we find in an open car motor-ways are windy, noisy and you get filthy from all the diesel exhaust. Nose and ears in particular and you are breathing that stuff! And you don't see anything apart from idiots in modern cars, (mainly traveling straight to hell.)
I only have one kidney after cancer fixed up the other one but that is another story. All I will say is don't put petrol lines, carb jets etc near your mouth.
Benzene is a strong carcinogen!
Life is for living!

| Re: 1932 Alvis 12/50 Cabriolet engine in repair Hi Bernie,
I own a garage....so have to deal with petrol lines and carb jets etc.!
I agree with you about the D and N routes in France, I spend 3 months a year in France.
Unfortunatly have never driven my hare in England, but who knows!
We have N roads in Holland as well, but they keep me up too much, the gearing from my car is a bit tricky, so takes quite some time to shift gear. Prefer my trailer, BTW it's nice to be the only woman driving that combination, all the men want to help when I have to unload...
And of course when I have to park it, but that's a thing I'm very capable of myself!
Men!
Sorry to hear about the cancer, your life will be very valuable now, no better way to enjoy your life then with an antique automobile!
