Well, never give up hope!
I must say that the other type of hare you see on the Internet so now and then, is quite a nice one as well. I have bought one of those just because I liked it. The difference in paws doesn't make it less nice, only it's not a 12/50 hare!

Re: 1932 Alvis 12/50 Cabriolet engine in repair

After a few weeks my Alvis 12/50 cylinderhead is back!
No leaks in the cylinder head or block, lucky me!
Probably only the head gasket, so we had a new one made.
Now it's back to puting it all together again, only the test drive will have to wait a bit, we had snow today!
Don't like to get my fingers (and other significant parts)frozen!
What looked as a disaster turned into just some repair of the valve seals and sharpen the valves.
I'm a happy Alvisionist today!

Hi West,

here some hare pics for you!
Sorry for the quality, I don't have a better camera!
The left one is the original and the other looks like he was in a fight! He flatened his paws and head a bit!

Hello Carine,
What's the latest on your Alvis repair? Have you taken a test drive?
Regards,
Alan

Re: 1932 Alvis 12/50 Cabriolet engine in repair

Hi Alan!

We just got back the cylinder head, it's okay just some repair on the valve seals! We put al the stuff back in the head, but not yet on the car! Plus we have big repairs on two Citroen DS.
We had quite some snow last weekend!! So, no testdrive on a short bases. Hope to do it before X-mas..!
Some Packard folk think I'll freeze to death in the Alvis!
We are working on it, but the wheater is not in our hands!
Let you know as soon as we take it for a ride!

Hi Alan!

Just to let you know I had my test drive last Saturday and it went very well!
My little red 'hare' runs smoothly and has no problem with running 60 mph! More speed isn't safe on the Dutch country roads!
I had a tour with 108 pre war cars on a lovely sunny day and together with proud owners from all cars!
Some pics for you!

Carine,

One of the runs during the 13th National Rally of the Packard Club here in Oz was to Sydney Vintage Car Restorations at Crookwell. http://www.svcr.com.au/index.htm

There were 2 Alvis's(Alvises/Alvii?) there including a 12/50, only know that because it was on the registration sticker on the windscreen! Here's as pic of each and there are more in this Picasa Web Album. http://picasaweb.google.com/ozstatma...shop26thMarch#

Great Ozstatman!

This one is quite different then mine is, but Alvis was known for their sportive models! Wonder if it has the same engine as mine does, the 12/50 stands for 50 HP.
Thank you for these pics, I like them very much!
I prefer mine I have to admit...!
Sorry for the owner!

Happy motoring

Hello Carine,

I have not heard much of European Alvis tours for the summer. What about an update. On another subject, I will try to post a couple of pictures about radiator mascots, proper for Alvis. Are you familiar with the "Flying Eagle" mascots? Has anyone heard of the summer touring results for Bernie and his Rapier? I would like to hear the stories and see lots of pictures.

Re: 1932 Alvis 12/50 Cabriolet engine in repair

Hello Alan & Carine et al
Our European trip went fantastically well. Our cars are due to be unpacked this week. Probably Wednesday. There are some pics scatted about on various posts. Also West Peterson has some for the Antique Automobile. At the risk of repeating myself here is one of Helens photos taken from the summit of the Col du Galibier. The car is one of the other Australian Lagonda Rapiers belonging to Bruce Rodgers. It is a very original car. Bruce has owned it for just over a yearhaving bought it as a non-runner with water in the sump. When we packed the container all those months ago he had actually driven it just 31 miles. Now he has covered around 7.000! A magneto failure being the most serious problem. It took under an hour to replace it in the car park of a ski village.
I think that Helen's photo captures exactly what motoring is all about.

Cheers

Bernie J.
