What have I got here ?

Enjoyed trying to beat the heat this past weekend by attending a flea market in a parking garage. Found this neat General Motors item and just couldn't pass it up for the price. It's peweter and well detailed as you can see. Looks like someone working on a door for a woodie. Don't think the piece is too old, and is obviously some kind of presentation piece for someone getting certified as a Master Technician (I think). Can anyone tell me what it is - how old, purpose, and maybe even who the guy who received it was?
    Thanks,
    Terry

I have a few Master Technician statues from my time as an Oldsmobile mechanic. We were required to complete a monthly Service Guild quiz. There was a yearly test with a few hundred questions. You had to meet all requirements and obtain a specific score to be a Master Tech. I left the Olds dealer in '96. I'm not sure when the program ended.I believe the statues were awarded starting in the early or mid '80s. The Chicago Zone office also hosted a nice award dinner. In '91 and '92 Master Techs were given the use of a new Olds for a month. I don't have the statue that is pictured above. i couldn't tell you what year or division it is from.

I also was a GM master Tech. Never saw that one , I'm going to guess it's for a master body tech.
you could try to google the name on the award for info?
    I don't think it's pre 1985.

Re: What have I got here ?

I did some internet searching and uncovered a bit of info. They seem to date in late 80s on up. There have been a few variations sold on ebay but none like this one. They seem to sell all over the place - from less than fifty bucks to hundreds depending on what they depict. There was one guy who has one that is Corvette specific and he was asking $750 - of course asking and getting are entirely different. I'm guessing this one is worth a bit more than the fifteen bucks I paid for it, but who cares. I like it so it's staying on my book shelf. I'll keep looking and maybe I can eventually find out when it was given and exactly what it was for, although I'd say body craftsmanship is a good guess.

We build woodie bodies. I would love to find one like that. Where on e-bay would I watch?
