1931 Reo Speedwagon emblem

Hello Everyone, What a great forum and thanks to The Money Pit for suggesting it. This is my first post.

I restore antique automobile emblems with vitreous, glass, enamel. Some of you may remember a posting a few months back, by The Money Pit, of a 1910 Chalmers Detroit that I created.

Usually I have clues as to the colors required but must say the plating requirements are less clear. I find that often the plating has just disappeared, or flaked off over the years. Sometimes I can find a little plating left in a recess but I sure would like to know for sure. I know that at the beginning of the 1900's an emblem might not have had plating because it would be soldered directly to the radiator. Also, later nickel was used until around 1930 when chrome showed up.

Am currently working on a light blue 1931 Reo Speedwagon radiator emblem. Does anyone out there know for SURE what the correct plating should be? At this point I am leaning towards gold.

I am also working on a 1928 Overland Whippet Six with the same plating concern. I'm listing that in an additional post to keep them separated for searching purposes.

Thanks in Advance......Karla

Was hoping for an answer to the plating of the Speedwagon. Am adding the information that along the top of the emblem, between the wings, is found the word STANDARD.

Later.........Karla

If you will Email me a picture of your emblem I can probably answer the finish questions. I have a fairly large truck emblem collection but often do not know the application, especially the exact year(s) of use.

Karla -

Sorry, but I do not have information to provide.

I am looking for an emblem correct for the 1930 Speedwagon.
If you have or know of one, please let me know.
I want my truck to have the "vetran / survivor" look,
so an un-restored emblem in decent shape is fine.

Thanks,
James Andrews
