1967 Camaro RS vehicles used limit switches on their headlight door set-up. One for closed, one for open.
You can find limit switches in the aftermarket. Seems like LittleFuse used to have them. A simple flat switch, square in shape, about 1/8" thick and 1" square, with an external paddle that triggered the internal contacts and such. Might be able to adapt something like that. Seems like there were index holes on the rear corners?
