can anyone tell me what the make and year

I have never seen a car with a rumble seat and a trunk. Can any one tell me what it is and maybe have a better picture of it.

Gen. Motors, I believe it's a '37 or '38 Oldsmobile. Clues; The tag light above the tag, plus, in those years there were small round tail lights mounted so high up on the side of the body that they're not in sight in ther picture. The object on the rr fender is likely a rumble step.

I believe the plain bumper marks this as a 1937 Olds. The 1938 Olds rumble seat coupe had a raised center section of the rear bumper.

Click on the link above for some very good 1938 images. Here are images of the front ot the 2 kinds of 1937 Olds coupes:

Oldsmobile Eight

Oldsmobile Six

In retrospect I think the plainer bumper might be indicative of a 6 cylinder car of either year, not necessarily a 1937. If you post this on the Olds forum they'll likely know which right away.

Re: can anyone tell me what the make and year

I lean toward it being a '37, I don't think the '38's tag light was quite the same. A rare car it is indeed. Conv's Production figures from The Production Figure Book for U.S. Cars by jerry Heasley are;

'37 F-37 (6 cyl) including export, 1619
L-37 (8 cyl) " " , 728

'38 F-38 (6 cyl) " " , 1184
L-38 (8 cyk) " " , 475

I had a '37 sedan as a highschool kid in '49. I always looked for convertibles. In all those years I've seen only 2, both '38's.

Re: can anyone tell me what the make and year

Sir: I once tried to buy a 1938 Buick convertible that had the rumble seat and rear trunk. It was a complete car but needed absolutely everything done to it to bring it back to show-car condition. The owner wanted a 'show-car price' for his un-restored car so I had to pass on it! Every time I drive by the farm where the car was stored, I think about that car and what if????
Oh well!! we can't get 'em all! Indian Four
