| Re: Willys knight coupe There is a Willys-Knight registry, and a Club, I believe.
Generally speaking, the Willys-Knights were up-scale Willys products, featuring the Knight Sleeve-Valve engine ("the only motor that actually improves with use!"), as opposed to the regular old Overland and Whippet cars that were in the Plymouth-Ford-Chevy category.
W-K cars are nifty and substantial looking; when the engine is in good condition, they are especially quiet-running for cars of that period (due to the absence of "poppet valves", lifters, tappets, etc). They also could burn huge quantities of oil as the mileage racked-up... the later Knight-engined cars used a device that was designed scavenge the oil vapors out of the crankcase and reclaim them, which reduced oil consupmtion somewhat.
Other than that, they were fairly typical cars; styling somewhat resembled mid-20's Buicks... typical composite wood-framed/steel skinned bodies...
If you're looking at buying one, try to make sure it's as complete as possible...
There are two c. 1925 Willys-Knight sedans that show at Macungie every August...I believe both are unrestored survivors...
