What is this headlight to???

This is a tough one guys. Click on the link below and guess what this headlight is to. We just can't figure it out. A friend of mine & myself have spent several hours looking thru pictures & books trying to match this to something & we can't get it. It has to be from about 1929 - 1931. It has a socket on one side for a jewel, and a socket on the other side for a tie bar. At the top of the rim there is an "8." There is a ridge that goes down the back of the bucket. It seems to be almost exactly the same as a 1928 or 1929 Cadillac, except cadillacs has a black crest at the top of the rim, not an "8." It's a fairly large light, and would have been off of a medium to large car originally. I have tried to match it up to the larger Graham, Hupmobile, Peerless, Marmon, ect. & just cant get an exact match. One possibility is the large series 1931 Jordan, but I cant find a close up photo of a headlight from one of those. Any ideas?

Go to the bottom right of the page & click on the pictures to make them bigger.

If you go to Google, click on Images, and type in "Jordan 1931" there's a picture of a '31 Jordan coupe with a headlight that "appears" to the same as mine.

Is not Jordan, or Studebaker. Might be a big Nash??? Does it have any identifying marks on it such a Twilight, Guide etc.

Why do you say it's not Stude. It has the same number 8 at the top as the badge in front of the radiator on a 28 or 29 Stude. Same script, same font... The hole in the side is for the badge bar... I'd say it's a 28 or 29 Stude President 8

Didn't all Studebakrs from this era have the little pointed wing at the top of the rim? That's why I don't think it's Studebaker.

Yes the Studebaker had the feather crest on the top, used same shell and retaining ring as the Jordan. I am still thinking it is Nash. That 8 is stamped into the ring

The "8" IS NOT stamped into the ring. It can be removed. The "8" is gold plated too.

Hard to tell from the picture, but it looks to have a plugin on the backside for the wires. Jordan lights had the plug in the hollow mounting bolt for a cleaner look

You're correct, there is a plug in at the bottom back of the bucket. The wire does not goes throught the mounting bolt. By the way, I see your into Jordans. I live near Cleveland and have seen what's left of the Jordan factory. The Speedway Series Z Ace roadster is also being restoring in the area at a local shop.

Re: What is this headlight to???

Sorry guys, Oldford is right, the light is from a 1928 Studebaker President. It was a one year, one model version they used with the 8 emblem to call attention to their new eight cylinder model. I had one of those lamps myself. Stude8
