Question Stone Chip Repairs, anyone have a opinion?

Brought my Olds into the shop and began some "stuff" I've been putting off.
As I glanced through the windshield I spotted a stone chip. It has a slight fracture as well. I would like to maintain the original glass in this car. Does anyone have a view on the professionally done rock chip repair?
Thanks

I've had it done, and I would recommend it. The "fracture" may negate the possibility, though.
I think that your insurance company will pay to have it fixed, ignoring the deductible. So check with them, first.

West, maybe I'm not using the word fracture right. It shows a slight below the surface void. I would think the liquid fill may flow into the void.
Thanks

Re: Stone Chip Repairs, anyone have a opinion?

The Chrysler dealer next door uses a service that stops by every week to fix stone chips, etc. One morning last winter I found someone had hit the windshield, at eye level on the drivers side, of my 1968 Dodge truck with a bb. Needless, to say I was not a happy camper. Long story short that was the day the service stopped by, my office is next door. Well, they said they could repair it. You can still see the spot but the hole was filled and it did not crack. My second endeavor was even more pleasing. I recently purchased a 1998 Jeep Cherokee with a nice rock chip in the windshield that was just starting to show the slightest sign of cracking. I purchased a repair kit from Walmart, $12.00 versus $65.00, and fixed it myself. When the sun hits it just right you can see the spot if you know where to look. No cracks and at a fraction of the price!

I have had chips repaired without any problem afterward. I got them before any fracture away from the chip started. As West said most insurance companies will cover the cost. check with your agent. I would go with an experience person rather than buying a $12 kit a Walmart to save $50 or $60.

I suppose more detail should have been included with my post as the point being made was that chips can often be repaired. I was convinced that the Dodge windshield was not repairable but was delightfully surprised by the results. The Jeep windshield has extensive sand pitting that is noticeable when driving into the sun. Curiosity and research for a feature about what is and what is not possible for the do it yourselfer led me to try the Walmart fix. In both instances I was quite surprised by the results.

We have had this type of repair made on about three vehicles including the Winnebago Adventurer we currently have. We have been pleased every time with the results. And our insurance covered it at 100% because it cost so much less than a replacement. We have never had the repair to fail.

Sounds like people are having good luck with the repairs. I had planned on asking around locally for an experienced tech. As much as it would be great for the insurance to pay the repair my main concern is saving this original windshield in the car!!
