John DeLorean dies

Too bad there weren't more innovative guys like him in his time willing to attempt to build special cars.

Adios, father of the muscle car.

Re: John DeLorean dies

As a former DeLorean dealer and a one-time big fan of John's, I am saddened to hear of his passing but sadder what became of his life. DeLorean had more vision at GM than many of his compatriots at the time. Yes, he had his warts but he WAS a car guy. The DeLorean was not the car I think he really envisioned and certainly was not what most of his dealers expected but we all bet on the man. The Delorean saga put a few gray hairs on my head as I became the resident go-to-guy amongst some of the dealers in the Midwest. We were all flying by the seat of the pants and the quality issues drove us nuts!

What John may have done financially and with the drug situation was very disappointing. Virtually all the dealers who signed with him did so on the basis of John being a true hero in the car business.

On the other hand, I drove one daily and my daughter, for some reason loved me to take her to school in the car! <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/image...lins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Re: John DeLorean dies

This particular manufacturer and vehicle have always been one of my first loves. For years, when I mentioned the car, friends and foe alike have said "WHAT??!!" I have never waivered in my fascination for this automobile. But then again, I have been laughed at many times before and probably will be again. However, I will continue to believe he was a man before his time, as was many others

Re: John DeLorean dies

John and his wife attended a Packard exhibition at a museum near his home in New Jersey last week, shortly before he was stricken. He wrote an article, "From Packards to Pontiacs" which was published in the Winter 2004 issue (#117) of the Packard Club's "Packard Cormorant" magazine.

Re: John DeLorean dies

John DeLorean was the man behind the Pontiac GTO. He first built one for his self then urged GM to build 5000 limited editions. Then he got dealers to order more than 15000 and that made GM put it into full production
