I have a 322 nailhead motor which I bought. I'm trying to identify the year it was manufactured. The serial number from between the left exhaust manifold is 14162715. It has a single 4 barrel carb. The manifold bolts measure for a 322. Can you help? I tried to attach a picture of the serial number.

The number actually is; 1,416,271 5. This is an engine for a 1955 Super (last digit 5) and was built in August 1955 near the end of the model year 1955 run.

Thank you Dave. How did you decipher the code? Could this engine, being so close to the 56, have the higher horsepower, meaning 255hp or would it top out at 235?
