    Help indentifying wheel rims

Hello, I don't know much about antique vehicles and I am hoping that someone here might be able to help. Around 1960 my father bought a home made trailer from a farmer. The farmer told my father that the trailer had been made from the frame of a Willys Whippet. We used that trailer for many years until it was dismantled about 20 years ago. We still have the frame and the wheel rims. I thought that someone somewhere might be able to use these and I looked up Willys Whippet on google images. Nothing I saw matched the rims we have. I am hoping someone here might know what they are. Thanks.

Do you have a picture of the frame too - may help identify as well.

I don't think they are Whippet's since those were mainly wooden spoke wheels. These you have are steel. Possibly a 1933 era Willys though?

I do have a picture of the frame, although it's not a very good photo. I'm not sure how much of the trailer frame is original to the vehicle it came from, but I know the axel is original. Unfortunately the axel is mostly concealed by the leaves in this photo. I can't get a better photo any time soon because the rims are at the summer cottage about 4 hours away from where I am.

Definitely not WHIPPET wheels! Not later WILLYS, either. I'd think 193? Dodge?

Beat me to it. Chrysler produced something of the mid to late 1930s and probably either Dodge or DeSoto.

Thank you for those comments. This is something of a mystery then. For the last 50 years we just believed that they were from a Willys because that is what we had been told.

So now I'll spend some time on google images looking at 1930's dodge & desoto.

    thanks alot!!

There were quite a few other cars that used these style of wheels in this era including Chevy although I think they had 6 lugs. I had a friend who had a 36 International C pickup who always had me on the lookout for these but I lost contact with him.

I don't think it is 36 MoPar with a 5.50x17 tire. Chevy did have 5 lug artillary wheels on the 36 standard series. I am not sure about 35 master. Willys did have a line of light trucks 33-34 maybe.

    Re: Help indentifying wheel rims

Curt got it: I'm 99.9% positive the rims you have in the first photograph are for a 1936 Standard model Chevrolet. They look identical to the ones on my car. If they are 5.25/5.50" X 17", that confirms. The 36 standard rims are a 5 bolt pattern and 17" diameter. Master series were 6 bolt with a bigger hubcap. These are unique only to the 1936 Chevrolet standard, but fairly common since a bunch of these cars were made.

I counted 14 scallops around the wheel in the subject picture while the Chrysler only has 12. I can't count the Int'l but it looks like the hubcap's bigger anyway and I think my friend's truck was 16". If 36chev's wheel has 14 that's more confirmation that it's 36 Chevy standard although there still might be others that use this wheel

Hi, I am brand new to this web site and I was wondering if anyone knows what these belong to. I am thinking mid-1920s Chrysler, but not sure. Any help would be much appreciated.Help indentifying wheel rims-img_1200.jpgHelp indentifying wheel rims-img_1201.jpg

Yes, I have 4 of them and the tires are in excellent condition. The fourth rim does not have the metal bracket to hold the hubcap, however.
