engines:sell or scrap

My brother went into a nursing home last year. It has befallen me to clean up his property. He has about 10 engines that have been left outdoors for maybe 20 years, give or take. None of them turn. My question is: are they worth trying to sell, or
are they scrap?

Rent a Bobcat so you don't hurt your back, scrap isn't worth what it was last year, hope it covers the rental fee.

Re: engines:sell or scrap

After 20 years of exposure to the elements it would take a lot of work and money to get these engines back to running order. Unfortunately none of them are all that rare or valuable.

The V6 is intriguing, however, as Dodge did not have one. It could be a GMC motor, but more likely it's a Buick V6 from an early '60s Special/Skylark or from a late '60s Jeep when they had purchased the rights to the design. However in any event if it's frozen due to exposure it's probably scrap iron like the others.

They aren't making any more of these. I would caution against scrappage. THe OHC Pontiac is getting hard to find. Nailhead Buicks are becoming more popular with the dreaded street rodders. A Craigslist ad doesn't cost anything.

It is not impossible, nor even particularly difficult, to ressurrect a rusted block. At worst, you need to machine out the pistons to free the crank and rods. Replacement pistons are readily available for all of these.

Got to look at a map. Where in He** is Jordan. If not to far from me I might buy the Buicks.

According to my research, Jordan is West of Syracuse, between 90 and rt 5 to Auborn. It looks like you could throw a rock from 90 and hit Jordan.

Joe Padavano is correct Craigslist, and many other places, don't charge for ads. We have a paper called The Ad Bulletin here that people can place ads in for free. The cost for the paper is very reasonable and how they cover the cost. Maybe there is something similar where you live.

And don't forget there is the BUY/SELL Forum here and there is no charge for that for non-commercial sales.

Photos would help. It seems a shame to plow them under or scrap them if someone would be interested for a small fee or even let them go for free.

Don't throw too hard, you might overshoot. Jordan's a pretty small town.
