Eight years without an antique on the road

Just wondering if anyone else has been enjoying the hobby without an Antique on the road? I see no reason why I'll have anything rolling this year, that makes 8 years without a driver. Lots of projects, lots of shows and flea markets, and the internet. Do you really need a driver?

It has been around 2 years when I started to do engine work and now that I have started on the body it may be another 2.

Bob, We are in the same boat you are. Two antiques and neither is ready to be road-worthy any time soon. Racing a Legends car for ten years put them on the back burner. Haven't raced yet this year due to Mom's illness and then death. Dad still needs us so we aren't making any big plans at this point. It has only been three weeks since she passed.

But we still go to shows and judge and still make the trip to Hershey. So we are still very much enjoying the hobby and the great people.

Bob, in my opinion, you have to have at last *something* old to drive around every now and then, even if it's a cruddy, crusty old slug.

My usual summertime daily driver '68 Bug is now currently awaiting some serious engine attention, but that situation has, in turn, allowed me to rediscover my '60 Bug, which I don't think I drove at all in 2005. I've already had it out on the road to a local car show a couple of weekends ago ( ref: http://members.aol.com/cgearannex/Su...erlin2006.html ) , and am having a ball with it again--occasional local shopping trip or ice cream run with the kids, etc..

Also, from my perception, having been involved in the old car hobby for a fair time now, I don't think it's *ever* been any easier to register an old car in Connecticut, than it is now...

Even when they're dirve-able you sit and look at them 99% of the time anyhow cause you can't drive them as much as you want.

Good point, the money saved on gas, insurance, and plates could buy parts for a project.

I buy mine done. That way I get to enjoy them immediately. I still maintain and tinker with them but it's a bigger pleasure to get out and drive, even if it just to go to a cruise.

Buying my cars done has allowed me time to do other insane projects.

My 65 Rambler is up on blocks, parked on a mountain side 800 miles away, probably has little critters once again living in it.... just too many other auto projects underway so I canceled the tags and insurance.

Am looking to buy a vintage boat "already done" as I'd like to go play and not work so much...
