My wife and I are on the board of directors and the car selection committee of this Concours. As we exited the host hotel this morning we were greeted by one of remaining Futurliners. They were built by GM for the Parade of Progress in 1939. They would drive 12 of these in a caravan from town to town. They would precisely line them up about 8 feet apart, side by side, opening the sides to create ceiling and floors that linked all the vehicles into the largest mobile indoor display space in the world. Inside was GM's vision for the future of transportation, science, and future life in general.
The show is small enough that we have a pass in review of all cars on the show field with a running commentary by very knowledgeable automotive designers and experts in the field. The judging takes place in the morning and the review starts at noon. My wife has been singing the National Anthem at the show for years. She nailed it.
Here's the parade of cars. My '77 Town Car was last as it was the newest car in the show.
