Cams and new oils

This is a provocative article. I've been using Shell Rotella oil for a couple of years.

Good link, Randy.

For those who might not notice, Randy's link goes to page two of the three-page article. Here's a link to the beginning page:

Re: Cams and new oils

The toys have been on Rotella 15W40 since the mid-90s, when I first saw indicators that the anti-scuff additives were being phased out of gas-rated motor oils. I switched the daily-driver K-car over last oil change, and I expect the Custom Cruiser wagon will get it soon too. Far as I know the Bravada's 4.3 is a roller-cam engine so it can stay on Havoline or Valvoline.

They're trying to say zinc and moly poison catalytic converters. We didn't hear anything about that in 1975- they even said an occasional emergency-use tank of leaded fuel wouldn't permanently damage the cat.

Give 'em time, the diesel oils will change too. Same as the diesel fuel formulations that go into effect in a couple years.
