    '39 Sedan Coat hooks

Got the headliner of my '39 Century 4door model 61 all in perfectly and realized I didn't take measurements for the location of the coat hooks. Can't take headliner apart at this time without causing problems. Can anyone give me exacting specifications/measurements as to where they are located, so I can put them on without making extra holes in the headliner?
    Pics would help.
    Thanks

    Re: '39 Sedan Coat hooks

You should know the rough location. And The coat hooks are wide enough to cover any holes that are out by about 1/4". I would suggest using a fine pin to probe around where they should go to locate the holes.

I'd like an answer too for our 1939/41.

I presume you mean the ones on the rear quarter light pillar (with the grab-handle things).

We took ours off when the head-lining was done and the spot was covered up by the upholsterer.

    No luck, thanks Grant.
Does anyone have a pic of their own car with hooks installed?

Does your car have the assist straps as well? My old 39 Chevy, being an entry level car, only had coat hooks, but the more up market products had assist straps. The Dodge has hooks combined with the straps. I don't know much about Centuries, but is there a chance the assist straps have been replaced by coat hooks? Earl or Grandpa would know.

Good point Grant. I do have the assist straps....could it be I never had the coat hooks that I bought to put on the car?

    Re: '39 Sedan Coat hooks

Quite probably. I can't see how you could have them both in the same location.

Our hardware for the strap is different to Grant's example.
The bracket has a little hook at the top. I assumed this hook is what airbrushguy referred to as the coat hook.

That's what I thought too Terry. Did we use Chev ones on locally assembled cars? Are those pics any good to you?
Here's what my Chev had. It was a Master 85, the plain Jane one.

Yes that's what I was thinking. I guess you used the strap as a hook if you had straps instead of hooks on a particular model.

    Hi Grant,

Is this your car or could it be mine? The seat cover looks very familiar to me.

    Best regards from Germany
    Ulrich

PS: if still needed I can take pictures in high resultion of that area.

Airbrush: No coat hooks used on US Series 40 cars. Assist strap is correct as shown in Grant's pictures. Just checked the ones on my very original Model 41. No coat hook attached to the assist strap either. I've occasionally seen the straps up for auction on Ebay.

    Re: '39 Sedan Coat hooks

    Not mine Uli!
You still coming over for a visit?
Dave, I'm starting to think that the coathook/assist strap combo could have been a New Zealand only thing, as cars assembled in NZ had to have a certain percentage of locally made content by law.
