1932 Buick Straight 8,timing gear alignment question

Hello, we are working on a 1932 Buick 66S with a straight 8 cylinder and was looking for torque spec's and the timing gear alignment. We normally would put the gears "dot to dot" however if we do that the piston does will not be at the top of the cylinder which does not appear correct. Anyone know about this? Thank you for trying to assist me.
