high build primer and sand and sand

no foolin - I sanded my finger prints right off

my lil girl (don't panic - she only sanded for like 5 minutes

now color time - maybe the hardest choice is choosing color (when not staying Stock)

again shooting her myself in that lil garage
TPR has a HVLP 3 Gun Set for $99 - that did the job ok enough for me

    after clear and roof white:

    some assemble required

mother .....happy to see the project comin along

tried RED wheels and Hub caps - NOT FEELIN THE LOVE though

well here we are Back in Black

with my 65 Bel Air Wagon in the background - HEY MOM - this one is moving in to the garge while the Buick is out! - sorry

WOW! Nice looking 55 there Jonahboo! It is amazing what you can do in a small garage. Great paint job, love the colors. I kind of like it with the red wheels, but the black look pretty good too!

    Stunning car, Jonahboo. Well done.

Just showed my wife the pics.
She had a great point. You notice the gorgeous gold car with the black wheels. You notice the wheels with the red ones.
She has been around me too long.
She DID call it gorgeous, BTW.

just for Giggles - Last summer I made a Guitar Amp (with some styling cues from the car....3 port holes, sweepspear, and emblem) - I call it 55 Special - here are some pics of it:

You are one creative guy. No wonder Mom lets you monopolize her garage. I kind of see Mrs. Mike's point, that the spectacular paint should be front and centre, not the flashy wheels. How he got her to look at your pictures is something on which he should provide lessons to the rest of us. My Wifey otherwise understands me but she has no clue about this tragic automotive obsession.

Re: my 1955 Buick Special story

Just catching this thread. Man THAT was a lot of work. Congrats on a great job. Love the colors and leaving the top white helped retain the period look just enough. My first car was a red and white '57 Chevy that I had painted 66 Riviera Gold.
Again great job, you gotta be proud. And Mama too.

I'm still undecided about the wheels and tires though. I'd like to see a photoshop of black walls with gold wheels and the dog dishes. But then again you need the white walls to balance out the white top. I don know....

Kool amp too. Dude you're quite an artist

Great car, nice work, FANTASTIC PHOTOS, and STUNNING paint job. Awesome. May want to add some skinny beauty rings to those beautiful red wheels and small hubcaps... the wheel set up is sweet now but the rings will make 'em pop even more.

I like the black rims . Need a picture with the hubcaps on. Rims in the same gold color would work also. The gold color sets you apart no doubt. You matched the dash in the same color. That's key. What is lurking under the hood?

    254 N/H 2 bbl - all stock for now

the red wheels have the built in Dog Dish clips, the black do not - it needs tires so - i might repaint the red rims either black or gold and re-shoe.....also considering just plain ol' chrome reverse.....i can't make up my mind

    can't wait for spring

    thanks for the love

Did you mean 264 Nailhead? btw, my first '55 Special More Doors (post) came with the larger, full size wheel covers with the plastic red "Buick" center caps. My current '55 4dr came with the smaller dog dish covers, which I assumed came from a different car... but, after some inadvertent research, it looks like the dog dish were a factory option?

Re: my 1955 Buick Special story

yes my car had the full cover - i do not like them - so i acquired the other rims and clips and then the caps (which are near perfect)
they used the same full covers i believe from 55-6 - i also got a clean set of '54's i toyed with installing those as well

    couple more pics:

Re: my 1955 Buick Special story

Yeah, those full covers, although still vintage and cool, cover too much wheel... did you get your bumpers re-chromed or did you just polish the heck out of them? The chrome looks great, especially set against that Riviera Gold (or whatever that color is). My guess is that you will be taking home some trophy metal from any show you put the car in.
