Inserting Photos into the Text of Your Post

Many of you have expressed an interest in inserting photos into the text of your posts. For "Me and My Car", this is a great way to provide illustrations of your car to accompany your narrative.

Here's a step-by-step approach to inserting photos. I will edit these instructions to provide greater clarity as we go along. If Roberta thinks this would be helpful, we could make this a sticky.

1) Your photos must first be posted to the Internet before they can be inserted into the text of your post. I have typically used the "Collectible Automobile Photo Post" feature of this forum for this purpose. Click on the Photo Post link on the upper left portion of your screen, and follow the step-by-step process of uploading your photos. Your photos should be saved on your computer's hard drive in the common .jpg (jpeg) file format. The forum administrator must approve your images before they actually appear on the Photo Post galleries, so it's important to be patient for the photos to be approved.

2) Once your photos have been uploaded to the Internet, compose your new post on the forum. When you are ready to insert a photo into your text, open a second browser window that displays the photo you wish to insert.

3) Open the browser window that contains your photo. Click on the photo with your right mouse key, then left click on properties. A "Properties" box will appear, including a line that is labeled "Address" with "URL" below it.

Using your left mouse key, highlight the address, which will look something like this:

http://www.electra225.com/owners/Bri...OP-59buick.jpg

Once the address is highlighted, right click on the address, then left click on "Copy".

4) Re-open the "Collectible Auto Discussion Forum" window, and click the "Image" button under "Instant UBB Code". (This is one of the features that appears right below the window where you are composing your post.) A box will appear in the upper left portion of your screen.

Position your cursor inside the box, then right click. Left click on "Paste", and the address you copied for your picture should display in the box. Click okay, and you will see in the text of your post something like this:

Once you've completed your text, and are ready to finalize your post, click "Continue" as usual. When you preview your message, your photos should display.

This is easier than it sounds! Once you've done this a few times, you will find that you can add photos in seconds. Please make certain that your photo is not too large when it displays. This can be distracting for people reading your post, who will need to scroll from side-to-side to read your text.

Re: Inserting Photos into the Text of Your Post

Addendum: If you are using photos from the Collectible Auto Photo Post on this forum, you will find that the URL address contains unnecessary characters. Delete everything after ".jpg" in order to make your photo display properly.

Be sure to let us know if you've run into a snag, and perhaps we can help you figure out the problem.

Bringing this to the top to help anyone who's wanting to create a new post with photos. Roberta, will you please make this a sticky?

As long as you are going to make it a sticky, give some guidelines for sizing the photos so that everything including the text is not stretched so you have to scroll back and forth to read it.

Re: Inserting Photos into the Text of Your Post

This is an excellent point, Willie. If you use the Collectible Automobile Photo Post on this forum, the photos will be a perfect size when you insert them into your post. If your photos are elsewhere on the Internet, I'm not certain how to modify the size if they're too large. Maybe someone else who's more computer savvy than me can help respond to this.

Pictures should be around 500 pixels in width any more and we get the LLOOONNNG sroll to the right.
And here's a little help to resize there's other ways to do it but this seemed pretty handy. Check it out: Buick Picture Resizer
I just used it on the 3 pictures in my first post, see if that looks any better. RV

Re: Inserting Photos into the Text of Your Post

Thanks! That is a neat tool. I have done it previously (trial and error) with a photo editing program and then never remember what I did the next ime I need to do it.
Now if we could just adjust some of the long pictures already out there.....

Re: Inserting Photos into the Text of Your Post

I set up a resizing link at: HERE Which you can use to resize your pics if you have them on a web page, otherwise, if you are using pics off the BCA Member's Gallery, then let me know and I can resize and edit the post, if you tell me where it is! Of course. This program seems to work pretty good. Posted pics should be no more the 500 pixel wide to not have the extended view in the posts. Hope that helps. RV

Re: Inserting Photos into the Text of Your Post

Here's a reminder to everyone to be certain to ask for help if they have problems posting their photos.

If your photos are not displaying as expected, please don't give up and delete your post. Go ahead and complete your post, with a plea for help. We can look at your image code or URL to figure out what's wrong, then tell you how to edit your post to fix the problem.
