68 GS350 & 98 Riviera

Hey all, some of you already know me from the V8Buick forums. I've been a member here for some time, but mostly to read. Just thought I'd put up a few images of my 2 Buicks. I've owned the 68 GS350 since 2001, and the 98 Riviera since 2006 I think?

The proper 68 simulated wood steering wheel and horn cap just went on a week ago, replacing a Grant wheel that was on the car when I bought it.

Two awesome cars. A pleasure to see them. What's the best times you have on the GS?

Thanks John! The GS is relatively stock, and has gone 15.38, with a measly 2.56 posi rear. The 98 Riv is a bit faster, having squeezed out a 15.21, lightly modded as well. The 350 was scheduled for a build this fall, but will be put off til next fall perhaps. It will still be fairly mild, but should break into the 13's. Not looking to make a race car out of it, but mid-15's really blows.

The stock rear was a 2.56? I can hardly believe what Buick did back then. My GS has a 2.97 and although I've never drag raced any car, I feel that sometimes it just does not have the kick it ought to. It does go good enough for me, but I worry too much about breaking something if I start driving it too hard.

Moving from the 15's to the 13's is quite a project. What modifications do you plan to make?

Nice David,
That wheel really looks great...my very first car had that exact look, that wheel was the highlight of my 68 convert in high school...until I got the 8-track!

Actually, this rear came out of a 69 Skylark Custom, prior to my ownership. I think the stock rear would have been a 2.73 open unit. I'd prefer a 3.08 or 3.23 posi, but the 2.56 gears were a blessing when I drove it home from Seattle to Fargo ND, and on my 04 trip from ND to OH and back for the BPG nats. I also made about 20 passes in OH before driving it home again.

Considering just how stock I am currently, getting to the high 13's isn't all that big of a jump. However, I am having a complete rebuild done by a local Buick racer, details to be revealed at a later date. The biggest drawback will be that I'm keeping the 2.56 rear, unless a better/affordable deal comes along.
