Re: 1958 Limited Four Door Riviera

If there is that much dirt under the side you are going to be working on next, it should be clean under there when you are done.

Nice work, please keep the updates comming.

Well, it depresses me...I had high hopes for getting some stuff done for the '29 this winter...of course, we probably have another month of winter up here, but absolutely nothing has happened.

Adam is something of an inspiration...just hasn't quite overcome my laziness factor yet though.

Great work Adam, glad you are staying with this project. As previously stated, you are an inspiration to guys like me who have a rust bucket sitting--just waiting to be spiffed up. In Heaven there will be a special club for restorers ! I did not hear an answer to your earlier question about the body bolts, looks like you will be tackling that issue soon and wondered if you had it figured out (I assume I will need this answer as well)

Re: 1958 Limited Four Door Riviera

Hey Adam,
Having been laid up for the last three weeks and not seeing you post your progress for a while I need a 58 Buick fix! Hope the quiet is because you are busy at work and not because of lack of funds or desire to get at the car. As stated by others your ability to work on the Limited and the fact I have two also are a great inspiration for me as my stable of 58's all need work of some kind too plus makes me want to get started again. With the kids finally looking like they are on there own I took a leap and bought a mig welder with the knowledge my lack of knowing how to do bodywork is going to be a long learning curve. Wish you were not so far away that I could come over and volunteer to help with your car in hopes to learn this trade.
Being really new to this posting this I will try to post a picture of my car which I received from my Dad back in 1971.

Re: 1958 Limited Four Door Riviera

Thanks for sharing the photo! The 58's look great.

I've been very busy with work for the most part, not much time for anything else right now. The car is ready to have a new front pass floor and rocker panel. Then it will be very close to coming off the frame. I will need to unhook some cables and lines, but that should be it.

Does anyone know how to remove the front and rear glass in these cars?

Hi Smartin

Just join this group.

Will just let you know I think you are doing a nice work on the Limited.

The front and rear windshield are just sitting in a rubber seal.

I am also doing a frame off on my 1958 Super 4 door

Please take a look on

Re: 1958 Limited Four Door Riviera

Morten, thanks for sharing your project! I have seen some photos of your project when I search for photos of 58's on Google.

Today, I took a stick of dynamite to the car. Some parts came off without a struggle, others...didn't.

Ya think the radiator had a leak? I hope my guy can at least use the tanks to recore it.

I talked to a glass guy a few days ago, and he gave me some pointers on how the front and rear windows come out. So...I took the plunge and went for it. The front windshield was already cracked, so I did it first to get an idea of how exactly they are installed. Of course, I made a mess of it. The garbage man now owns it. It's only $500, right?

I cut the rubber gasket out around the outside of the rear window, and it came out pretty easily. Thank God..

Question 1: Is this insulation in the balancer pulley supposed to be there??

Question 2: What is the AC box made of? It appears to be some sort of plastic/styrofoam/crap. I will need to figure out how to repair it, since it's nicked up pretty good.

Question 3: Are all heater boxes covered in this worthless fiberglass insulation shell??
