Trans fluid leak at the front of my 1947 super manual trans

Just spent the weekend pulling the manual trans out of my 47 buick trying to repair a fluid leak, trans was leaking so bad it was hard to tell where it was comming from. Resealed the torque ball and replaced all the gaskets reassembled and drove it about twenty miles and its still leaking as bad as ever ,seems to be comming from the front. Any help or suggestions welcomed, at wits end.

    Thanks Don

Could it be coming out of the rear main seal ??

When you put the transmission back in did you replace the cork gasket on the input shaft ?

Did you check all 4 or 5 gaskets in the transmission ?

Just some ideas for next time you pull it out.

you should be able to tell if it's the front, by which side of the flywheel is wet.

engine side, it's the rear main oil seal on the engine.
clutch side, it's the front pilot gasket, whih is a cork job. also, did you reinstall the beveled metal retaining clip? this is a round spacer that pushs the tranny main gear back into the tranny and keeps the gears alined. if you didnot, the gears will move, and get stuck.

note: the front tranny bearing whic is visible. the race is actually the back of the clutch bell. they sell a gasket, but most guys glue it together with sealent. note the little groove that lets the tranny fluid drain back inside the tranny. this is the foward most point that any tranny fluid should go.

You are welcome to call me, Don. I've been thru this once or twice. There are several places, and several little pieces that gotta go in the right place.
