straight 8 timing chain

I am rebuilding a 248 and plan on installing a new timing chain and gears but the chain did not come marked with the two brass colored washers. There is no markings on the chain that I can see. I have a old Thompson repair book that states there was 11 teeth (if you include the chain teeth that are at the markings of the gears) (9 truely between marks) to install correctly. Is this correct?

That is the same thing that my shop manual shows, though you have to count in the picture to make sure.

Thanks, I counted the teeth in a shop manual and that is what I counted and since it was also the same number of teeth in Tompson's repair (written in the text), this is the number I am going with.

Re: straight 8 timing chain

I have installed a lot of timing chains in my life and Buicks "count the teeth" is the most confusing. I recently did the 11 tooth thingie and the engine runs fine. So you have faith in your work and have at it.
