Hi Guys,
I finally got the old stove tube out from the exhaust manifold.
I just kept pulling downward with a pair of grips and swinging the grips from side to side working beneath the manifold.
eventually the tube came out without causing any damage to the manifold.
there was no way that the same tube would go back in from the top to 'block off' the hole through the manifold. The old tube is gnarkled and bent, probably from my efforts to remove.
I used an 8mm diameter bolt to block the hole to prevent exhaust leakage.
i placed washers and exhaust sealing paste at the top and bottom faces of manifold.
I put a small compression spring between the top washer and underside of a hexagon nut and locknut.
I did this in order to put some pressure on the washers to maintain a seal but allow differential expansion of the manifold and bolt.
Up to now , the repair seems to be effective.
By the way, I do not need the stove tube for choke activation as i have a manual cable choke fitted.
i hope this info may be useful to someone.
