    Cut-A-Way nailhead & trans

Been a few years i mentioned i had this... and folks asked for pictures... well i cranked up the forklift and got it down off the pallet rack and unwrapped it... I've had it for at least 20 years and these are the first pictures i ever took of it... I did look close and do a little research and with the help of others I now believe this to be a 1964 or 65 nailhead with a sp400 trans... I am thinking about selling it... I've had the phantom phone calls over the years of people try'n to confirm it exist... which is always kinda strange how they find me... I have NO idea of it's value... I have found little history of any cut-a-way motors having changed hands... I think this whole thing will rotate... at one time I thought it was earlier (1959 ish) but looking that it had an alternator and the brackets looked corret for that... had to make it after 1963... then the trans being a sp400 and someone pointed out the carb being a carter...put it below 1966
not a lot more that i know about it except it might end up on ebay

Ponytl. I don't know what it would be worth to anyone, but I think it would be "priceless " to either Sloan Museum or Buick Heritage alliance. May even be considered a nice deductible on your taxes if it goes to a program like those.

Yeah this would be cool to have displayed at the National.

    Where is it?

Doesn't look like its on a stand, probably need on to properly display it.

Well on behalf of the 2012 meet let us know what we can do to have it displayed?

    Re: Cut-A-Way nailhead & trans

It does have a stand... I don't know that it is original to the motor & trans... I'm pretty sure i'm about to put it on ebay... It's one of the things I hate to sell..... but things happen... I really don't have a clue to it's value... I had a sight unseen offer a few years ago from a museum and wasn't in the mood to sell (or have the need) I might float it out on ebay and see what happens I tried that with the original 2 track recorder that came out of Sun Studios... that had to have recorded Elvis and all the others of the time... with zero luck... Kinda hope that happens with this also..

Hard as you try...........sometimes, as much as you think, ponder and consider......................you just don't understand the point. This would be a wonderful item to be on display. Nuf said!

You know, I often times wish that such posts were more straight forward.

This was posted, just waiting for that person to contact them and say oh my goodness, I'll give you ten bezillion dollars to sell that to me.

Now, disappointed, it's the Ebay threat.

Yes, you have a neat and unique item. Yes, it's worth X dollars. Just state the amount you want for it, you have a figure in mind, you know you do, and see if it sells.

Sheesh. The piece might not be common, but the approach is.......

I see no "theat of ebay," ponytl has a cool item that could be displayed anywhere by anyone with the $$$ and space for it.
    It would be nice to know three things: if it has a motor number, we could determine exactly what year it is;
where is located now, for pick-up; when it's listed, post a link so we can bid on it.

It will likely have a reserve, and if it sells, great for everyone as we'll know its value and it gets a new home.
If they just said, "Here it is and the price is $$$$," would there be grousing about that?
Sheesh, give the guy (or gal) a break!

    Thanks for posting Ponytl.

Unless I was independlently wealthy, if I had it I'd put it on ebay with a decent but not outrageous reserve and let the market determine value. Its his and he can do want he wants. We should be grateful he posted it so anyone who might be seriously interested has a headsup on the auction.

There is no way anyone could pre value it. There is simply nothing to compare it too.

Thanks... as someone who has been in the "preservation" business for over 40 years... I deal with folks all the time who somehow think private property somehow belongs to us all... all when it's on my dime... pretty much reflects the mood of the country... where those who do... do and those who don't want what the others have... entitlement mentality

    Re: Cut-A-Way nailhead & trans

Actually, Ponytl, I do have a ton of friends.

I apologize if my post was overly aggressive.

I've been on this forum for a long time, and never have liked the posts when something is "sorta" for sale. We've all seen the times when people have something, won't put a price on it because they're so afraid that they'll undervalue it.

The point is, if you're going to put it on Ebay, then do so, and post the link here for people to see.

If you want to sell it outright, then post a price, don't go fishing for an offer. Invariably what happens is someone will make an offer, it'll be lower than what you think it's worth, you'll be offended, they'll be aggravated.....and it's a waste of everyone's time.

Good luck with the sale, hope you find a good home for the cutaway...best dc
