Re: Cadillac 6 blade fan for Buick Straight eights

Just for anyones interest, i have been advised that some of the 18 inch flex fans measurements:
the center hole is 5/8" of an inch diameter, with the largest 4 bolt spacing of 2 3/8" center to center.
there are various diameters and different rotations- clockwise and anti.

i would really like to get at the problem rather than go the route of adding non standard equipment etc....
I will start a new thread and see if we can get some interest going!!

The fan blades with a clutch will not work. I think they came out in 1960. Will need one that is earlier

Well, I installed a '59 Cadillac AC fan, and it works great! It is pretty close to the radiator, about 5/8 inch away...Joe and Rusty, does that jibe with your experience?

Re: Cadillac 6 blade fan for Buick Straight eights

My Buick parts books show a 6 blade fan available for the'50-'52 series 70, '53 series 50-70, '54-'55 all, and '56 with air cond. It does'nt give the size, but the Buick part number is: 1161825, group number 1.064. I do'nt know the diameter or if it'll work as good as the Cadillac blade, but it should bolt right up to a '53 40 series straight eight since the '50-'53 straight 8 's list the same water pump for all series straight 8 s. ( Note: the '54-'55, and the '56 w air. are V8s of course, but still list the same available 6 blade fan part number as the earlier straight 8). My books also show the same spacer from '50-55, and some '56 . Size of the spacer is : 1 & 1/2 long, 5/16 shoulder , part number : 1338263, group number 1.064.
My parts book is from Buick in 1970 and goes back to '34 on common things like belts, but most parts only go back to the early 40's on parts still available in '70 when I got my books, so a lot of earlier parts were already discontinued and not listed any longer.
I'll gladly look up part numbers for anyone if they're listed in my books.

Re: Cadillac 6 blade fan for Buick Straight eights

I am using the 1950-52 Buick Roadmaster 6 blade fan on my prewar Buick. It bolts on without any modification. However, getting the four attachment bolts installed is a bit of a challenge.

I have a 6 blade fan that I don't need or know what it is from. See my post under the "What is It?" forum made three days ago.
