56 Dynaflow leaking question

Hello,

My 56 Special is leaing fluid from the front of the transmission in the tourqe converter area. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where it is. I am thinking the front seal is no good but would like some more advice.

Thanks

Jon

Re: 56 Dynaflow leaking question

It could be the front seal or the pump cover o-ring. To replace either, the trans or engine has to come out. You may want to remove the converter inspection plate and make sure the converter (pump) cover bolts are tightened to 25 lb./ft. of torque. If they are loose, the o-ring may leak. You must remember that by all accounts, almost every Dynaflow will leak a little.

Re: 56 Dynaflow leaking question

There are 2 drain plugs in the TC. It's worth checking them but most likely it's the front seal or possibly the O ring....Bob.

Re: 56 Dynaflow leaking question

I have torqued the converter bolts to 25lbs less than 2000 miles ago. I also checked the drain plugs hoping that would be the simple fix. I know they all leak a little but this is more like a pour than a leak. I shut if off yesterday after a 10 mile drive and lost probably 1/2 a quart. I inspected it yesterday while running and it appears the fluid is coming from behind the T/C.

Thanks for the advice
